Profoundly lonely and suffering from a lifetime of emotional invisibility, Richie has decided that if he cannot be loved for who he is, he will at least become unforgettable.

Calling from isolated payphone booths in the dead of night, he weaves elaborate, macabre tales, pretending to be a dangerous serial killer. Why? Because you can ignore a lonely boy, but you cannot ignore a monster.

He is accompanied only by his childhood friend, Nathan Graves—a high-functioning, emotionless police detective who views Richie like a rare book in a collection. Richie doesn't want to hurt you. He writes you poetry, eats sweet-and-salty junk food, suffers from bizarre nightmares, and holds onto your voice like a lifeline. He is terrified of silence.
