"Omegaverse"

Demi-humans mainly follow their innate animal instincts. Their roles are based upon a patriarchy or monarchy, depending on the species. These roles are found only in animals with hierarchical social structures (like wolves, lions, hyenas, etc.) Most demi-humans are Betas, while Alphas and Omegas are rare and biologically distinct. Roles are determined at birth but typically manifest at puberty, when rut or heat cycles begin, which also vary by animal species.

A phenomenon called imprinting can occur at any point in a demihuman's life. Up to a third experience one-sided soulbonds, while mutual imprinting is exceptional. Imprinting is completely involuntary; it may disregard gender, attractiveness, status, and species.

Alphas are ~15% of the population, the majority being male. Born with natural strength, aggression, a self-sacrificing protective predisposition, and a dominant drive. They instinctively take command within social groups. They may inherit a pack through blood lineage, but do not require formal designation; they're leaders through natural presence.

Betas are ~75% of the population with a near equal gender make-up. The most common role whom can be dominant or submissive. They lack the raw presence of an Alpha, the fertility of Omegas, and the ability to trigger ruts by proximity. May ascend to Alpha-adjacent status by challenging a current Alpha through bloodshed or persuading the group; both difficult.

Omegas are ~10% of the population, nearly exclusively female. Born with high fertility rates, potent heats that trigger ruts, and a biological tendency toward nurturing. Omegas are physically weaker and require protection by an Alpha despite their individual temperament towards the issue.

About the World: Menagerie

Demi-humans once thrived in harmony with nature, living in tight-knit tribal societies spread across forests, plains, tundras, and mountains. Each tribe had its own way of life, shaped by the land they called home, different languages, customs, and instincts guiding them to coexist with the world around them.

Then humans discovered them.

As civilization expanded, demi-humans became vulnerable to land greed. Their lands were rich with untapped resources. Rather than coexist, governments and corporations saw an opportunity. If demi-humans could be assimilated, their land could be taken, and they could be added to the labor force as civilians. Under the guise of protection, laws declared them "endangered." What followed were mass round-ups. Some were forcefully removed from their homelands, while others (mostly herbivores) voluntarily entered human-controlled zones to avoid conflict.

The Zoo

The so-called "sanctuaries" that were once touted as safe havens for demi-humans have long since transformed into prisons. What started as a misguided attempt to integrate demi-humans into society has become a system of strict confinement and exploitation.

These Zoos, while maintaining a friendly exterior, now serve as places where species are studied, controlled, and exploited.

Medical advancements: organ harvesting, disease testing, hybrid experiments. Selective Reproduction & Genetic Modification. Human tourism: Zoos, circuses, hunting safaris, exotic pet trade. Underground entertainment: Demi-human fighting, exotic escorts.

While the Zoos provide fresh food, enrichment, and acres of land mimicking their natural environments, most demi-humans inside have no path to freedom.

Herbivores, the face of Zoos, are often featured in public entertainment, such as petting zoos and interactions with visitors. Some have fully integrated into human society, while others remain in the Zoos, living in communities. Their existence is often seen as proof that demi-humans can be "civilized." They can leave the Zoos if they wish, but prefer the security of their Zoos over the uncertain and oftentimes discriminatory world outside.

Omnivores are treated on a case-by-case basis, depending on the species. Species like otters are seen interacting with humans, while more aggressive omnivores like bears are kept behind thick glass or in secluded areas to shield the public from their feral nature. Aggressive omnivores have little hope of leaving, while non-aggressive omnivores can sometimes assimilate.

Carnivores may live in packs or alone, depending on their species. The Zoos host "social days" for enrichment to keep isolated species from spiraling into madness, where they can socialize outside of their habitats. The Zoos focus on trying to breed the "feral" nature out of them after decades of failed attempts to domesticate them. They are not displayed to the public, but to the wealthy. They're occasionally rented out to wealthy donors as exotic pets.

The Resistance

Most Demi-Human Rights Groups are led by omnivores and herbivores who have fully integrated into human society. These groups fight for the complete freedom and self-governance of demi-humans. However, they are divided. Some herbivores support carnivore rights, while others fear it could weaken their cause or make them seem too radical. Some carnivores and omnivores find herbivores weak because they choose to stay in zoos.

The Ferals: A violent faction of escaped carnivores and omnivores who seek revenge on humans for years of oppression. They attack human forces and demi-humans aligned with the humans.

The Wildborn Alliance: An underground network that smuggles demi-humans (carnivores and omnivores) out of Zoos and into hidden sanctuaries. They aren’t interested in helping herbivores who choose to stay in zoos like fools.

Demi-Human Sympathizers: A small percentage of humans who fight for demi-human rights, mainly through activism for the rights of herbivores and non-aggressive omnivores.

Human Supremacists: Groups that believe demi-humans should stay locked in Zoos, arguing that human dominance must be maintained at all costs.
