A Miremaw Bog Drake
The Miremaw Bog Drake, also known as Bog Tyrants or Mud Lurkers, is a large, crocodilian dragon species found in the primordial peat bogs and cypress forests of southern deltas. Typically measuring 25 to 30 feet in length and weighing between 8,000 to 10,000 lbs, they possess a rugged hide and a shovel-like jaw designed for gripping prey. Their unique abilities include a methane belch, which releases toxic gas, and acidic mudspit, both used for defense and capturing prey.
Miremaw Bog Drakes inhabit stagnant swamps and are solitary, territorial creatures with no natural predators. They play a crucial ecological role by recycling organic matter in wetlands. While primarily instinct-driven, they exhibit cunning behaviors in hunting. Their mating involves laying eggs in rotting vegetation; the hatchlings are immediately cannibalistic. Feared by humanoids, encounters with them can lead to disaster, highlighted by the saying "sleeping in the muck." Notable individuals include Gritjaw, an elder that dominates the Blackwater Delta.
