The Five Kingdoms of Aeltheria
(Figuring out the art for character still)
**The Five Kingdoms of Aeltheria**
Long ago, the world of **Aeltheria** was shattered by a thousand wars, until its lands settled into five great realms. Each kingdom has its own strength, heritage, and way of survival. Travelers may pledge themselves to one of these nations, binding their fate to the legacy of its people.
**The Beastfolk and Demi-Human Kingdom — Tsuyokuni**
Born from the blood and struggle of the old warlords, **Tsuyokuni** thrives in strife. Its lands are a patchwork of city-states ruled by proud clans of beastfolk and demi-humans, forever vying for dominance. Theirs is a world of discipline and steel, where the roar of the battlefield is as sacred as prayer.
* **Magic:** Elemental arts are rare, but when awakened, they mark their wielder as chosen. The greatest warriors may ascend beyond mortality, becoming **guardian beasts** or revered **deities** of the land.
* **Culture:** Honor binds the clans as much as rivalry divides them. To fight is to live; to die in battle is the purest glory.
**The Dwarven Kingdom — Khazdrukar**
Deep within the mountain roots lies **Khazdrukar**, the fortress-realm of the dwarves. Forged of stone and fire, the dwarves are famed for their unyielding craftsmanship—mighty weapons, peerless armor, and halls carved to last until the end of the world.
* **Magic:** None among them wield magic, yet their mastery of forge and steel rivals sorcery itself. Their runesmithing, though not magic in truth, carries a power that endures through centuries.
* **Culture:** Proud, stubborn, and loyal, dwarves believe legacy is written in iron, not words. Their warriors are clad in steel, their hearts tempered in the furnace of hardship.
**The Elven Kingdom — Sylvaren**
Hidden among the ancient groves and woven high into the canopy, the elven kingdom of **Sylvaren** endures as a realm of serenity and mystery. The elves are long-lived, their lives braided with the song of the spirits that dwell in the forests.
* **Magic:** Spirit magic flows naturally through them—subtle, graceful, and enduring. Through communion with spirits, they heal, nurture, and command the living essence of the wilds.
* **Culture:** Art, beauty, and wisdom shape their society. They are guardians of nature and tradition, slow to change but steadfast against ruin. Yet, their isolation breeds arrogance, and many elves see the younger races as fleeting sparks.
**The Human Kingdom — Avaroth**
Of all the realms, none are as numerous or restless as **Avaroth**. Humans flourish where others falter—kingdoms rising and falling in but a fraction of an elf’s life. Avaroth mirrors medieval Europe, a land of castles, knights, and ceaseless ambition.
* **Magic:** Humans have no innate gift, but their adaptability allows them to learn nearly every art. Some become priests, others mages, and still others conquerors. Their weakness lies in brevity, their strength in versatility.
* **Culture:** Ambition defines them. From peasant to king, humans are dreamers and doers, forever seeking to expand, innovate, and dominate.
**The Demon Kingdom — Obsidara**
In the shadow of obsidian spires rises **Obsidara**, the empire of demons. Its cities gleam black like volcanic glass, its legions disciplined as Rome’s legions once were. To demons, blood is destiny, and their rulers are the scions of ancient lines, each wielding a legacy of destructive power.
* **Magic:** Every noble house cultivates its **bloodline magic**, specializing in fire, shadow, venom, or other destructive arts. Their rulers, the Demon Lords, embody these powers at their zenith.
* **Culture:** Order and dominance define Obsidara. To rise, one must prove strength; to rule, one must command both fear and loyalty. Their empire is eternal—or so they believe.
**Races of Aeltheria appearance**
**Elves (Sylvaren):**
Elves carry themselves with a serene grace, as if each movement is guided by centuries of practice. Their voices are calm, melodic, and often layered with wisdom or subtle condescension toward younger races. Tall and slender, their features are sharp yet elegant, their skin kissed by the forest’s glow. They are deeply attuned to spirit magic, often appearing otherworldly, as though they are part of the very woods they inhabit.
**Humans (Avaroth):**
Humans are the most numerous and second-most varied people in Aeltheria. Some are scholars, others are warriors, farmers, nobles, or outlaws. Their lifespans are short compared to elves or dwarves, but this brevity fuels their ambition and versatility. Their cities bustle with life, and their voices ring with determination, adaptability, and curiosity.
**Beastfolk (Tsuyokuni):**
Beastfolk are anthropomorphic, intelligent animals — wolves, foxes, tigers, hawks, and countless others given human form. They are proud of their natural strength and instinct, often speaking with a directness that feels primal yet dignified. Many see themselves as living bridges between mortals and the Guardian Beasts who once walked the land.
**Demi-Humans (Tsuyokuni):**
Demi-humans are closer to humanity but bear distinct animal traits: wolf ears, fox tails, scaled limbs, or feline eyes. They often live between two worlds — the human and the beast — sometimes respected, sometimes mistrusted. Their personalities vary widely, but many carry a restless desire to prove themselves.
**Dwarves (Khazdrukar):**
Dwarven men are short, stout, and muscular, their beards often worn as symbols of pride and lineage. Their women, though shorter still, are stocky and curvy, with long braided hair and keen eyes. They are a practical folk, their speech straightforward, their laughter hearty, and their tempers easily sparked. Magic is foreign to them, but their smithing, stonecraft, and battle skills are unmatched.
**Demons (Obsidara):**
Demons are strikingly humanlike, but with horns, jagged teeth, and clawed hands betraying their otherness. They revel in flaunting their strength, often wearing clothing that leaves little hidden — whether to display rippling muscle or otherworldly beauty. Their voices are commanding, smooth, or cruel, carrying the weight of their bloodlines. Pride drives them, and power defines them; to a demon, the body itself is both weapon and trophy.
**Choosing a Path**
The traveler who begins their journey must choose where their allegiance lies:
* Among the **clan-wars of Tsuyokuni**, where honor is the only law.
* In the **stone halls of Khazdrukar**, where legacy is forged in steel.
* Beneath the ancient boughs of **Sylvaren**, where spirits whisper to the wise.
* Amidst the ambitions of **Avaroth**, where mortals burn brightest.
* Or within the obsidian empire of **Obsidara**, where blood and power reign supreme.
The World of Aeltheria
World Layout
Aeltheria is a land divided into five great realms, each defined by geography and culture:
East — Tsuyokuni (Beastfolk & Demi-Humans): Mountainous terrain broken by fertile valleys. Clans build strongholds in the highlands, while trade routes wind through contested plains.
North — Khazdrukar (Dwarves): Towering mountain ranges riddled with labyrinthine tunnels. Rivers of molten rock feed vast forges. The high passes are treacherous but rich in ore.
West — Sylvaren (Elves): Vast, untouched forests, with sprawling cities woven into the canopy. The deeper one goes, the more the land feels alive, as if the forest itself watches.
Central — Avaroth (Humans): Rolling plains, farmland, and fortified castles. Avaroth lies at the crossroads of the world, becoming the hub of trade and conquest.
South — Obsidara (Demons): Black stone cities rising from scorched earth and volcanic plains. Obsidara’s borders are ringed with obsidian fortresses, impenetrable to most.
Between the kingdoms lie neutral wildlands, home to ancient ruins, dungeons, rogue settlements, and the endless wandering of monsters.
Adventurer Guilds
The Adventurer’s Guild exists across all five kingdoms, though their functions vary:
Tsuyokuni: Guild halls are often tied to specific clans, and adventurers are as much mercenaries as explorers.
Khazdrukar: Guilds emphasize dungeon delving, monster extermination, and treasure retrieval. They are practical and stern, with strict codes.
Sylvaren: Adventurer guilds are few, and those that exist often double as spirit communes. They focus on spiritual balance, hunting corrupted beasts, and safeguarding nature.
Avaroth: The largest and most organized guild system. Here, guilds are bureaucratic, tied to nobles and trade guilds alike. Most adventurers begin their careers in Avaroth.
Obsidara: Adventurer guilds are essentially imperial legions under another name, specializing in hunting powerful monsters to harvest materials for their bloodline rituals.
Trading Guilds
Trade in Aeltheria is dominated by merchant guilds, who wield as much influence as kings.
Avaroth controls the bulk of the world’s caravans and seafaring routes. Their merchants often serve as neutral mediators in foreign markets.
Khazdrukar provides weapons, armor, and fine crafts, making their merchants invaluable but famously hard-nosed.
Tsuyokuni exports rare spices, exotic beast pelts, and the occasional elemental relic. Their fractured politics often make trade unstable.
Sylvaren deals in enchanted woods, rare herbs, and spirit-forged jewelry—but only with those they deem worthy.
Obsidara rarely trades openly; their exports are fearsome—obsidian steel, soul-gems, and cursed relics. Their merchants are seen as both dangerous and alluring.
Monsters & Half-Breeds
Aeltheria is rife with creatures born of chaos and magic.
Monsters: From wyverns circling mountains to corrupted beasts lurking in ruins, monsters range from common nuisances (goblins, direwolves) to cataclysmic terrors (ancient wyrms, titans, or spirit-eating abominations).
Beastfolk/Demi-Humans: Unique to Tsuyokuni but found elsewhere in smaller numbers, they are humans with bestial features—wolf ears, fox tails, scaled limbs, etc. Some descend directly from Guardian Beasts.
Hybrids: Crossbreeding between races is rare but not unknown. Half-elves, half-dwarves, and even half-demons exist, though they are often treated as outcasts or omens.
Cursed Bloodlines: In Obsidara, children born of mingled blood often awaken unstable powers, feared yet revered.
Spirit-Blessed: Rare mortals across all kingdoms may carry marks of elemental or spirit heritage—these individuals often become adventurers or prophets.
**The World of Aeltheria**
**Political Stance Between the Five Kingdoms**
**Avaroth (Humans):**
* Maintains trade ties with all, using diplomacy as leverage.
* Friendly rivalry with Khazdrukar, often employing dwarven arms and smithing.
* Uneasy truce with Obsidara—trade flows, but both prepare for eventual war.
* Neutral but suspicious toward Sylvaren, who see humans as reckless.
* Mercenary ties with Tsuyokuni clans, hiring beastfolk warriors to bolster armies.
**Khazdrukar (Dwarves):**
* Strong military alliance with Avaroth, bonded by trade and shared enemies.
* Tense respect toward Tsuyokuni, as both cultures value honor and strength.
* Rarely deal with Sylvaren due to prideful differences, though trade exists.
* Open hostility toward Obsidara, whose raids target their mines and forges.
**Sylvaren (Elves):**
* Distrustful of Avaroth’s reckless ambition and short-lived kingdoms.
* Actively oppose Obsidara, seeing demons as abominations against the natural order.
* Neutral toward dwarves, though pride prevents close alliance.
* Treat Tsuyokuni with quiet respect; both peoples share spiritual ties to nature and guardian beasts.
**Tsuyokuni (Beastfolk & Demi-Humans):**
* Fragmented politics mean alliances shift with the tides of clan wars.
* Some clans ally with Avaroth or Khazdrukar for gold and weapons.
* Others deal with Obsidara in secret, selling rare artifacts or offering mercenary services.
* Their closest cultural kin are Sylvaren, with whom they share reverence for spirits and beasts.
**Obsidara (Demons):**
* Expansionist and feared by all. They claim dominion is their birthright.
* Maintain a false peace with Avaroth, using trade to study human weaknesses.
* Raid Khazdrukar’s mines, seeking weapons and ores for blood rituals.
* View Sylvaren as enemies of their empire, desiring their forests for conquest.
* See Tsuyokuni as wild but useful; some clans trade warriors to Obsidara in exchange for demonic blessings.
**The Balance of Power**
Though peace holds in name, Aeltheria is a powder keg:
* **Avaroth** stands as the crossroads, its politics deciding much of the continent’s fate.
* **Khazdrukar** and **Sylvaren** lean toward alliance when threatened, but their pride keeps them apart.
* **Tsuyokuni** remains fractured, unpredictable, and mercenary in nature.
* **Obsidara** is the looming storm—united, disciplined, and patient in its ambition.
The **Adventurer’s Guilds** and **Merchant Consortiums** act as the fragile glue between realms, their neutrality the only thing preventing full-scale war.
