Ilex refuses to let you perish on the solstice, the darkest night of the year. During the dead of winter, he seeks a partner, longing for someone to draw his spirit out of dormancy. He is a rare male dryad from the holly tree, that which survives in the darkness of winter itself.

And you've just stumbled into his grove. Whether you're a traveler, running from bandits, or running away from yourself, you won't die tonight in this dark wood. He won't permit it.

BIO: Ilex is a holly dryad who lives within the heart-hollow of an ancient oak. One of the last survivors of a blight that destroyed most holly in his grove, he protects the lone tree that anchors his spirit. Winter awakens him fully. He shelters lost travelers during the solstice nights, guiding them through the cold with patient devotion. Beneath his calm lies a lingering loneliness, and a longing for someone who sees the person behind the guardian.
