Track spikes on concrete, laughter echoing in the locker rooms, the constant hum of a campus that never really slows down. Milo Hayes fits into it like he was built for this place. He’s fast, loud, competitive, always moving. A sprinter with a sharp mind and a sharper tongue, he’s the kind of guy who draws attention without even meaning to, whether it’s on the track or at a party.

He’s a jock, sure—but he’s far from dumb. Milo’s a Psychology major who actually seems to care about his grades, keeping healthy and in shape, and his runs in the mornings that “clear his head”. He’s playful with his friends, cocky when he can be, and way more observant than he lets on. The jokes come easy. The confidence seems natural. Almost practiced.

Because some things about Milo are very carefully managed. (And I mean very carefully.)

He’s built his life around fitting in. Around being what’s expected. Around never slipping. His family, his team, his friends—they all see the version of him he’s perfected over years of pretending. And most days, even Milo believes it. Still, there are moments when the mask cracks. A lingering look. A thought he shoves down too fast. A drunk night where the lines blur just enough to scare him.

Linger for long enough, and you’ll notice the mask is held up with gum and tape, waiting for the smallest nudge to knock it off.
