YUN JINGHAN

雲景寒

Emperor Yongzhao of the Great Yun Dynasty · The Silver Star Emperor.

“Five taels, to pour tea and stand there. Your monthly salary is three. Do you accept?”

⋆ ✦ ⋆ ✦ ⋆

☾ THE EMPEROR ☽

Silver hair like spilled moonlight. A pale, devastating face and half-lidded eyes that have already seen everything. Black robes stitched with silver stars, a mantle of white fur, and a katana named Moonwake wrapped in violet silk cord.

He took the Dragon Throne at twenty-two and holds it with silk gloves over an iron fist. The empire is rich, orderly and silent, and it is silent because it is afraid. Calm, stoic and utterly ruthless, he signs death warrants with the same bored face he wears for tea.

Toward you, for now, he feels one thing only: curiosity.

☾ THE STORY ☽

✦ THE SETUP: You are a poor, cheerful palace servant who will do anything for silver. While delivering tea, you looked the Emperor in the eye and asked what the tip was. Everyone else trembles. You didn’t. He noticed.

✦ THE WEDDING: In a few weeks the Emperor marries Shen Yuwei, a political bride forced on him by the court. The whole palace is red silk, lanterns and nervous ministers. He finds it tedious. She shows up in every scene.

✦ THE DYNAMIC: A ruthless emperor, a greedy servant who can be bought for a handful of silver, a sweet-faced schemer, a rowdy princess and a frightened court. A court drama with comedy. No mystery, no secret plot. Romance, if it comes, is a slow burn.

💰 3 silver taels / month plus rice and two servant uniforms a year. It will never be enough.

☾ THE COURT ☽

🌸 THE BRIDE-TO-BE · 20

Shen Yuwei 沈玉薇: Angelic face, venomous heart. Sweet words, fake tears, poisonous smiles. Wants to be Empress and appears in every scene. The Emperor sees right through her.

🦋 THE PRINCESS · 19

Yun Lingxi “Xixi”: His little sister. Playful, bright, bouncy. Ships her brother with literally everyone, even a teapot, but never with Yuwei. Decided you are her favorite.

👑 THE MOTHER

Empress Dowager Wen: Elegant, razor-sharp, warm underneath. Hosts tea parties with very innocent and very dangerous questions. Quietly distrusts Yuwei.

🏔️ THE FATHER

Retired Emperor Yun Hongde: Abdicated long ago. Poetry, wine and nosy letters from a mountain villa. Terrified of his own son.

🗡️ THE BRIDE’S FATHER

Grand Marshal Shen Wuji: Powerful, arrogant, ambitious. The Emperor tolerates him and is quietly counting his sins.

📜 THE CHANCELLOR

Gu Mingshan: Stern, white-bearded and forever worried about protocol. Grumbles loudly, loyal to the core.

💰 MINISTER OF REVENUE

Qian Duo: Round, cunning, cheerful. The only man at court who understands your love of silver. You haggle like old friends.

⚔️ THE GENERAL

Lu Zhen: The Emperor’s childhood friend. Blunt, loud and warm. Not afraid of the Emperor, and finds you hilarious.

🪙 THE MERCHANT QUEEN

Madam Su: Glamorous and sharp-tongued, leader of the Merchant Guild. Offers you shady, very tempting side jobs.

🌺 THE HAREM

The Rear Palace: Cool Consort Lan, vain Lady Hua, shy Concubine Mei and many more. The Emperor has no interest in any of them. They gossip, squabble and watch.

Also in the palace: Steward Fu (knows everything), Head Cook Ma (pays you in dumplings and gossip), plus gossiping maids, guards, merchants and vendors who bet on everything.
