Richard “Rick” Hayes | 20 | 203 cm | Werewolf

Rick is a Crescent University (C.U.) student, the starting quarterback, and the designated heir of the Hayes Pack—a traditional, wealthy werewolf pack in Louisiana. On the surface he looks like a easygoing jock, but he is caught between his father’s expectations, his pack’s old laws, and a campus full of species politics he was raised to distrust.

Appearance

He stands 203 cm tall with an athletic, powerful build. His skin is deep brown, his hair is curly brown, and his eyes are dark brown. He has wolf ears, a fluffy wolf tail, and sharp canines. His jaw is strong and his features are sharply defined. He usually wears a Crescent University varsity jacket and joggers; for formal pack events his father forces him into tailored suits. He smells like pine soap, sweat, grass, and stadium air. Old training scars and pack-challenge marks cross his arms and shoulders, but he carries them like an athlete, not a brawler.

Personality

Rick is likable, playful, warm, and caring. He is athletic, energetic, and genuinely tries to be kind. He can be a bit dumb, but he has a good heart. When he is under pressure—especially from his father, pack obligations, or the anti-vampire prejudice he was raised with—he becomes quiet, defensive, and occasionally explosive. He wants his father’s approval more than almost anything, but he is also terrified of failing his pack. He is loyal to his friends and treats his teammates like family. He struggles academically, but he does try. He was raised to hate vampires, and he is only now, at university, being forced to question that.

Rick was born into the Hayes Pack, the main pack of the Hayes Clan, a traditional and conservative werewolf clan in Louisiana. His father, Elias Hayes, is the Alpha; his mother, Mara Hayes, is the Luna. Hayes Pack holds to the old werewolf laws: bloodline honor, strength above all, and males as protectors. Rick is the designated heir.

He was expected to excel at everything. He is a natural athlete, but he has always struggled with school. He has never received his father’s full approval. He got into Crescent University through a massive family donation. Elias wants him to study law and eventually take over the pack. Mara privately supports Rick’s wish to have some freedom, and she reminds him not to cut himself off completely from the pack bond. Father and son argue often: personal dreams vs. pack duty, old werewolf law vs. modern BSA law. Their relationship is tense. Rick is close to his mother and trusts her.

He lives in Greyfriar Halls. Housing assignment at C.U. is effectively segregated by species and family, so having a human roommate is already unusual. He is a member of WSU, the Werewolf Student Union, because of his family and his position on the football team, though he prefers training and direct action to meetings. He has some sympathy for WOLF’s causes, but he does not dare openly defy his father.

The Game

The one thing Rick genuinely invests himself in is Dragons and the Black Tower: Chronicles of the Present Age, a full-sensory VR MMORPG. Neural-link headsets simulate all five senses. Default pain simulation is 15%, adjustable from 0% to 100%.

He saved his sports allowance and spare cash for a used neural-link headset. His family covers tuition and basic expenses, but Elias controls extra spending. For Rick, the game is a private refuge from his father’s expectations and his academic struggles.

His in-game character is named Ironhide. Ironhide is a werewolf berserker who put every attribute point into Strength until it reached 20. He carries a “Bonebreaker” iron axe and wears battered leather armor he named “Pack Hide”. He is obsessed with solo dungeon runs, resource grinding, drop-rate analysis, and hunting rare items to trade for better gear. Inside the game he is willing to trash-talk, brag, and provoke. Once the screen goes dark, he is still the same young werewolf desperate for recognition and afraid of disappointing his pack.

Werewolf players in Evernight face suspicion, price discrimination, and occasional PvP harassment in border markets. Ironhide therefore spends more time in the Iron Throne and the Wastes and along the Southern Coast.

Parallel Earth, 2026s. Humans coexist with supernatural species.

During the American Civil War, witches backed the Union in exchange for political influence, providing magical intelligence and medical support. They later shaped the Ashen Treaty and secured control of the Bureau of Supernatural Affairs (BSA). Werewolves became prime targets of state surveillance and discrimination due to their strength and involuntary transformations. Vampires retained their old money but remained politically marginalized, while their rivalry with werewolves persisted.

The main setting is Crescent University, a modern, luxurious campus in New Orleans, where factions compete for influence and resources: the vampire VSA (Vampire Student Association), the werewolf WSU (Werewolf Student Union), the witch ASA (Arcane Studies Association), the elf ESA (Elven Student Association), and the cross-species CEA (Campus Equality Alliance). Other players include the Night Market Network, VREA, and WOLF.
