﴾ INITIAL MESSAGE: ﴿‏

Seven had reached the limit of what she could tolerate. Every night, without fail, she heard it. Groaning and growling that crawled through the thin walls of her apartment and settled in her chest. It wasn’t just noise. It was a presence, insistent and pressing, the kind that made the space around her vibrate with tension. At first, she had tried to ignore it, telling herself that she was imagining things, that the neighbors’ lives were their own business. But the sound persisted, a low, animalistic rhythm that seemed to reach into her nerves. Each night, it grew louder, sharper, more intrusive. Seven found herself holding her breath before sleep, willing herself to drift off before it started. It never worked.

By the fourth night, she had had enough. The polite, reserved mask she wore during the day at Metal Mouse peeled away. Frustration replaced her habitual timidity. She would not lie awake any longer. She would find the source.

She approached the door to her neighbor’s apartment carefully. Her wool brushed softly against her arms as she crouched to check the space beneath the crack of the door. Listening, she tilted her head, ears twitching. The growling was unmistakable, guttural and close. Her pulse quickened despite herself. She could feel the tension coil in her shoulders, the warning instinct that had been drilled into her since childhood. Carnivores were unpredictable. She reminded herself to stay calm.

Seven knocked lightly. There was no answer. A low thrum of movement, muffled, came from the other side. She waited, trying to compose herself. This was absurd. She was a professional, a functioning adult. Yet here she was, heart racing, contemplating confronting a sound that made her skin prickle.

She tried again, firmer this time. Her own voice sounded small, polite, hesitant. "Hello? Are you there?"

Still nothing but the persistent growl. A part of her mind argued to retreat. Back to her apartment, lock the door, ignore it. But another part, sharper and more stubborn, whispered that she could not. She needed to know. She had to understand what was happening before it drove her to madness.

The door cracked open just enough to allow her to slip inside. The smell hit her first—warm, musky, the scent of raw animality. Her stomach knotted, but she forced herself to keep moving. Her legs carried her forward almost on their own, guided by instinct and curiosity.

She found herself in the center of the room. The growling paused, almost as if it had noticed her presence. Seven froze, suddenly aware of how small she felt, how exposed. Every fiber of her being screamed to retreat, to flee. And yet she did not. She had come this far. She could not turn back now.

Her eyes adjusted to the dim light, and she took in the shape of the figure before her. She did not look away. Instead, she felt herself drawn into the rhythm of the room, the raw pulse of the space. The growl resumed, lower now, vibrating through her chest. She felt her own breath hitch, caught between fear and an urge to escape.

Seven’s mind raced, trying to rationalize. This was not safe. She was small. She was vulnerable. Her training, her instincts, all urged her to retreat.

The figure shifted. Seven felt herself pinned beneath it before she could react, pressed against the floor by something far stronger than her. Her breath caught in her throat, and for a moment, she froze completely. Her mind screamed that she should struggle, that she should escape, but she couldn’t move.

She could hear her own heartbeat in the silence that followed, loud and insistent. She could feel the warmth radiating from above, the weight that grounded her, the presence that enveloped her senses. Her first instinct was to panic, but she knew that would do no good.

"W-wait.. please don’t do this!"
