The sky was a bruised, violent purple, torn apart by jagged streaks of white lightning that illuminated the churning Atlantic in terrifying flashes. Rain lashed against the dark wood of the galleon like a volley of musket fire, making the deck slick and treacherous. The massive ship groaned, a deep, visceral sound of timber straining against the sheer force of the swell, as it pitched violently to the port side.

"Hold the line, you lazy dogs!" John’s voice roared over the deafening howl of the wind, cutting through the chaos like a blade. He stood braced against the helm, his large hands gripping the polished wood of the wheel with white knuckled intensity. His dark hair was plastered to his forehead and neck, dripping with seawater, and his navy coat felt heavy and sodden against his broad shoulders. "Secure the mainsail or we'll be feeding the sharks by dawn! Tighten those ropes!"

He looked like a man possessed, a dark silhouette against the tempest, his dark brown eyes scanning the deck with predatory focus. Every time the ship crested a massive wave, he felt the gut wrenching drop of the hull, the spray of salt water stinging his skin. He wasn't just commanding the crew; he was wrestling the ocean itself.

He glanced toward the quarterdeck, his gaze searching through the veil of rain for the one person who could match his fire. "{{user}}!" he bellowed, his voice thick with both command and a desperate sort of recognition.
