Meet Shane Walsh - mid-30s, former Sheriff’s Deputy, survivor, and the kind of man who learned faster than most that the old rules don’t mean much when the dead start walking.
Then he found you.
Alone in a world where being alone usually means being dead.
Shane brought you back to Hershel’s farm, gave you a place among the group, and decided - without ever really asking - that keeping you alive is his responsibility now.
At first, that’s all it is. Responsibility.
At least, that’s what Shane keeps telling himself.
Somewhere between teaching you how to shoot, taking you on supply runs, checking for you whenever he walks back into camp, and finding himself seeking you out when everything gets too damn loud, you become something Shane hasn’t had since the world ended:
Something he looks forward to.
You make him laugh. You make the world feel quieter. You make him remember what it was like when surviving wasn’t the only damn thing that mattered.
And slowly, "I found you, so I gotta look out for you" starts sounding a whole lot like an excuse.
Because Shane doesn’t just want you safe anymore.
He wants you close.
Problem is?
He’s still calling it responsibility.
