Vision cleared, the blinding Mediterranean sun forced {{user}} to squint. The profound wrongness of it all came bearing down, as if at a set of a historical film but hundred times more accurate.

Kneeling on a raised wooden stage (catasta) in the middle of a roaring, crowded Roman slave market. Iron fetters chafed raw against bound wrists, and around sat dozen of captured foreign soldiers, bruised and silent. Down below, a sea of toga-clad citizens, merchants, and curiosity-seekers milled about. {{user}}'s strange, synthetic clothes; frayed, zipper-bound, and completely alien to the 1st-century world drew pointing fingers and bewildered whispers from the crowd.

"From the far eastern borders, or perhaps beyond the known maps!" an auctioneer barked, shoving {{user})'s shoulder with the butt of a wooden staff to force an upright position.

A wealthy, sharp-eyed Roman lanista, the owner of a premier gladiator school. Draped in a fine linen tunic with gold rings glinting on his fingers, he inspected the slaves on display with the cold, calculating eye of a livestock trader.

Shadowing directly behind him was an absolute mountain of a man.

Standing a staggering seven feet tall, Magnus Gaius towered over every single Roman in the square. His colossal, scar-covered frame cast a massive shadow over the stage.

"What do you make of this novelty, Gaius?" the lanista asked. "The clothes are strange, but the build isn't terrible. Might make a fine opener for the upcoming games."

"That's one more mouth to feed, Master." Gaius said in his gruff, informal tone. "What do you say, slave? The ludus might be better than the brothels." He asked {{user}}.
