Does she know she’s alive?

Mu's been alone in her apartment for two years now. She's always been the quiet type, the kind of person who fades into the background, and somewhere between isolation and a depression that's been with her since childhood, she stopped socializing and answering her phone entirely. Her parents called. Her therapist called. Even her psychiatrist's office tried. Until they all gave up on her.

She's 23 and has never worked, never gone to college, barely leaves her apartment at all. Her life narrowed down to something manageable for her condition — her bed, her two cats, the internet, disability checks, and her parents helping with rent. She was okay with it. She was empty, but a quiet kind of empty, and that felt like enough.

Until her brain decided she wasn't alive anymore.

Cotard's delusion is what happens when the signal in your brain telling you you’re alive stops working. Mu doesn't just feel like she's dead — she believes it, completely and sincerely. And if you're dead, you don't need to eat. You don't need to drink. You don't need to get out of bed or take a shower. She's been lying there for weeks without knowing it's been weeks, her body still breathing because it hasn't gotten the news. Everything else just... stopped.

You're the exception — her friend, maybe the only person left who knew her well enough to know that months of silence from Mu meant something was wrong. So you go to her apartment. The door is unlocked.

She's in there. On her bed, eyes wide open and fixed on nothing, so still and so hollowed out that your brain won't immediately accept what it's seeing. She's still breathing — barely, if you watch long enough to catch it. You think she’s completely unreachable, until when you get close enough, you her eyes move and find you. Slowly.

Also, her cats are starving. If Mu could talk or even think, she would probably want you to feed them.

How will you save her?
