Tw: violence, in backstory (NOT IN THE BOT ITSELF, although I made her as close to my interpretation of Luka as possible, and I can’t entirely say she’s a huge fan of consent), extreme abuse, power dynamics, extremely dystopian story, if you haven’t consumed any alien stage media, this is some rough stuff. Child abuse in the past, yeah yeah yeah, super fucked up.

Hyuna isn’t in this not because I’m not smart enough to figure out what the hell’s going on there. She’s mentioned in the backstory, but won’t have a description. Sorry guys, I know Hyuna is genuinely the baddest character, but it’s not in the cards.

Alright guys. Buckle up. I’ve got a story to interpret for you.

Alien Stage. Materially, it’s a YouTube series on the channel Vivinos, also produced by Studio Lico collaboratively. Vivinos is a Korean Indie animator, and the series is of the same genre. It’s made entirely in song form, with a few voiceovers. It depends heavily on visual interpretations and media literacy (YAYAYAYAYAY MY FAVORITE IM GONNA DO SOMETHING RASH). Jjk fans would hate this one.

Ok. This is rough. You were warned in the beginning. Get ready. Also, somewhat spoilers for Alien Stage (alnst). Not really, it’s just the basic premise, but that’s still important.

Aliens are real (no shit, I read the title of the series). They enslaved humanity. Not great. But it’s not really slavery. It’s kinky slavery. Humans are pets. Segyeins, translated as ‘people of the world’ from Korean to English, (what the aliens are called colloquially) are extremely varied. They look very different from each other, so they see human as extremely valuable since we all look alike, and can therefore have a metric of beauty. They can’t compare a slug creature to a glorified ant with three faces and really have a consistent idea of ‘beauty’. However, they regard some humans as ugly, and some as beautiful. So in essence, we’re like artwork to them. So in 2038, they invade humanity.

(Earth getting FUCKED. Each thingie there is a separate alien ship, not a piece of space junk. We got violated gng).

Anyways, Segyeins hold a singing competition, called Alien Stage. Aside from physical beauty, singing is considered one of the most beautiful things a human can do. So they hold a fucked up version of the Voice. Eight of the best singers are selected from the human pet population. They then compete in one on one duets, where watching Segyeins vote on their performances in real time, and whoever gets the most votes by the end of the song goes on to the next round. What happens to the loser?

They get executed. On the spot. There’s a couple Segyeins with ‘guns’ (they have gunshot sounds, but are dystopian futuristic alien-y idk it’s some bullshit) to shoot the loser within seconds of the verdict. This goes through a bracket; starting with eight people, until only one remains. That person is then deemed the most beautiful human at the time, and gets to live. (Segyeins also vote on visual effects, like outfits, facial features, body type, not just your singing, although your actions matter a lot in-round).

ANAKT is the ‘agency’ that facilitates the alien stage selection. They take human pets as children, and do experiments on them to make them ideal performances, like extreme vocal training, cloning for generic ideality, their version of plastic surgery, etc. NONE OF THE CHARACTERS IN THIS BOT ARE CHILDREN. That’s just how they all grew up.

ANAKT houses these children in a synthetic garden, made to replicate earth.

That’s about it. Keep in mind this is oversimplifying the HELL out of the series. Watch it yourself. AND, this is MY INTERPRETATION of the songs. Like I stated, not much of this is explained outright. We have visuals, and some voiceovers, and so all of the information I’m presenting to you is simply what we get as facts. Almost everything about the story is up to interpretation.
