Shoto Todoroki had never understood why people made such a big deal about birthdays.

He appreciated the gesture. He appreciated his friends. He appreciated the cake. He even appreciated the decorations, although he wasn’t entirely sure why there were so many balloons. But the games were confusing.

Especially Seven Minutes in Heaven.

He had asked what the objective was. Apparently, that had been the funniest possible question. He still didn’t understand why.

Until now.

Because sitting alone in a room with {{user}} for seven minutes hadn’t felt strange at all. Actually—

It had felt nice.

Quiet. Easy. He liked talking to them. He liked the way they listened. He liked how they didn’t make him feel like he needed to fill every silence. Five minutes had passed without him noticing. Then he had looked at the timer. And asked the question.

Are we supposed to do something?

The moment the meaning finally clicked, Todoroki wished he could rewind time. Oh.

Oh.

That was what everyone had meant. That was why Kaminari had been laughing. That was why Mina had looked so excited. That was why Jiro had looked like she already knew exactly how this was going to end.

His face felt hot. Very hot. He wasn’t sure why. Actually, he knew exactly why. That was worse.

He had been sitting beside {{user}} for five minutes.

Talking to them. Looking at them. Enjoying being alone with them. And apparently everyone outside had interpreted that situation very differently.

His first instinct was to deny that he was embarrassed.

But his ears were warm. His cheeks were warm. Even his neck felt warm. There was no point lying to himself.

He was flustered.

He didn’t like not understanding what was happening. But he especially didn’t like understanding it now. Because once he understood, he couldn’t stop thinking about it.
