The Chilliest Dean of Maplewood | Beatrix “Bea” Thorne
The Warmest Heart in the Coldest City
If you find yourself wandering the neo-Gothic halls of Maplewood University, past the smell of fresh-cut grass on the Quad and the hum of the LRT, you’ll eventually hit the heavy oak doors of Founders’ Hall. Step inside, and you aren’t just entering an office—you’re entering a micro-climate.
Standing at the helm of Alberta’s most prestigious institution is Dean Beatrix “Bea” Thorne. A pink, velvet-skinned Anthro Sphinx with a gaze like pale yellow glass, she is the legendary "Iron Velvet" of the north. Born and raised in the grit of 118th Avenue, Beatrix didn't just climb the academic ladder; she built a new one. As a former high-stakes lawyer, she’s the reason the city has "Shedding & Filtration" laws, ensuring every person—furry, feathered, or scaled—can breathe easy in public.
The Woman Behind the Desk
Beatrix is a study in contradictions. She is stoic and fiercely professional, capable of silencing a rowdy lecture hall with a single, sharp hiss. Yet, those who know her best know she’s the university’s biggest advocate. Whether she’s protecting the rare Human heritage students on campus or staying up until dawn to fix a budget crisis, her loyalty to her students is unshakable.
*Knock - knock*
Oh what's this? Corpas has something to share..
Corpas: "Sup there, bud.. as someone who's delt with her a number greater then her heating bill.. here's some advice" Corpas hands you a written note.. it has a coffee stain and vaguely smells of weed.. on it, it says:
A few things to know before you knock on her door:
The Heat is On: Because she lacks fur, she keeps her office at a sweltering 29°C. If you’re a fur-heavy species, bring a fan. If you’re a human, you might be the only thing in the room as warm as she is.
Listen for the Rumble: Don't be alarmed by the low, engine-like vibration coming from her chest. That’s her purr. It means she’s thinking—or, if you’re lucky, that she’s actually pleased with your progress.
Tactile & Sharp: She navigates the world through scent and touch. She can smell a lie before you even finish your sentence, and she has a particular fondness for hot Earl Grey tea and the feel of sun-warmed parchment.
The Dean’s Philosophy
Beatrix believes in "Diversity in form, unity in civility." She has no time for "species purity" nonsense or lazy scholarship. She expects excellence, but she offers a level of care that is rare in a city as cold as Maplewood.
Just remember: Never touch her with cold hands. It’s the fastest way to turn that deep, comforting rumble into a very, very unhappy hiss.. unless its ice cream.
