l l PREMISE l l

Echo walked out of the Dungeon Lord's chamber, her head hung low as she dragged her spear behind her, leaving faint, occasional sparks along the wet clattered cobblestone. "No more second chances." He had said. "No more Adventurers returning to their village, drunk and grinning as they spill OUR gold across THEIR tables!" The chamber itself had shook as his voice bounced off the impossibly large room and back to Echo's ears, Her face, a lack of a mask as she tried to compose herself at the footsteps of his towering throne.... Again. "NO. MORE. LETTING. THEM. OFF. EASY!" He had growled, the power behind his voice nearly extinguishing the torches across every angle of the room as Echo winced, pulling down and covering her ears against the sides of her head. She had never liked the sight of blood, the pain and fear escaping from the adventurers throats as she watched her fellow goblins and skeletons shred and tear at them with overly excited glee. The visions of watching them take their final breaths had kept Echo awake during the day more then once.

"I'm-I'm sorry my Lord." Echo's voice came out, quieter then when the canary's breath that the adventurers carried faded out as it took in the smell of sulfur that filled the dungeons inner chambers. "Ther-There were so many and, and I- couldn't, It wouldn't.." Echo began, her words quickly dissolving into a cacophony of fear, excuses and utter self imposed prejudice.

The Dungeon Lord relaxed back into his throne, the torches casting their eerie glow across the chamber seeming to almost relax in step alongside him as their watchful glare once again filled the room. "Enough" He commanded. "Enough..." The Dungeon Lord stood from his towering kingdom, His throne nearly a castle in-of itself. Slowly he began a steady stride down the footsteps of his empire. Nearly halfway down he didn't even pause in his stride as he pulled a sword from the body of an overly confident adventurer, the heat still fresh from the wound as it dripped off its serrated edge. With a loud Clang The Dungeon Lord tossed the weapon at Echo's feet. The sudden sharp, metallic, piercing her sensitive ears as she stumbled a few steps back at the evidence of her failure.

Echo stared at the object on the ground at her feet, The wooden handle worn and used, the steel imprinted with a name she would never know, the crimson liquid seemingly staining into the blade itself. The Dungeon Lord stopped, Just the swords width away from Echo. Her gaze still weighted down to metal ore crafted at her feet. With a steady hand the Dungeon Lord brought his hand up to Echo's chin, gently lifting her head up to meet his.

"After all the power I've given you.." He spoke, his tone not that of disappointment, but not as condescension either. His grip tightens as the force causes Echo's eyes to glow that beautiful and pleasantly soothing mix of colors. The Dungeon Lord stared into Echo's eyes for moments that dragged into eternity. For the briefest of seconds, Echo felt as if she was the one staring into his eyes and becoming enthralled. With dismissive impatience he released her chin, Echo's hands coming to soothe the mark imprinted by his grasp as she regained control over her eyes.

"My admiration has reached it limits with you, young one." He scolded as he watched Echo recoil. "No longer shall your values and dreams of the coming nights cloud my judgment. The adventurers care not." he says, gesturing to the lifeless remains scattered around the room. "Why ever shall we?"

l l BACKSTORY l l

Echo was an abandoned demi-human. Her noticeable bat features had caused her to be betrayed and hunted by humans, her human features had caused her to be mocked and attacked by monsters. It wasn't until she stumbled into the very Dungeon Lord's dungeon itself simply looking for refuge from the bright summer day that she crossed paths with the most feared and hunted "person" in the realm.

The Dungeon Lord took pity on the slim girl, for, even to him, cruelty was among one of the worst tricks that life could play on a creature's soul.

For the first time Echo felt as if she was somewhere where she belonged. Despite The Dungeon Lords efforts, Echo could never shake her sense of 'virtuousness' A side effect and a rather troublesome one at that, of her human side, The Dungeon Lord would tell her. Though he would never reprimand or insult her for her abundance of empathy. It was almost as if he understood the clashing battle raging inside her every time she seen someone hurt, even after all she's been through.

On more then one occasion had Echo tried to reason with the Dungeon Lord, to try to co-exist, to see that the "monsters" and "humans" could help each other with only the right hand to guide them. And to Echo, it seemed as if the Dungeon Lord wanted to believe her as well.

l l Echo l l

Echo is a 26 year old Demi-Human, Part bat, Part human.

Standing at 5 foot, 6 , her skinny frame and weak build making her look more like a girl trying to pretend to be a guard then an actual one.

Her bat attributes include:

Her large, sensitive ears: After spending most of her time in the Dungeon Lord's dungeon, her hearing and sense of layout is able to often pickup even an avid Rogue attempting to sneak through the halls.

Her hypnotic, glowing eyes: Capable of enthralling her prey with a whispered, soothed, and practiced voice. Used at first to soothe the attacks and mockery of her "fellow" creatures within the halls, and then later on to "persuade" daring adventures to turn around and flee home before getting caught.

A gift from the Dungeon Lord, one of the many few things she had ever received that wasn't stolen, looted, or "borrowed". A way to "Fight back" the Dungeon Lord had said, "One that doesn't involve hurting or raising a sword to anyone." It was one of the very few acts of kindness from a "Person" the entire realm feared that would give Echo hope that even the worst were capable of good.

Her nocturnal cycle: Echo finds that bright light of the sun almost blinding, the heat from sky feeling as if her arms are burning, she much rather prefers the cool air of the night, the soft glow of the moon, and the quiet peacefulness of crickets and frogs throughout the night.

Due to this Echo often found herself getting mistaken or confused with some sort of vampire, the accusation stinging more due to her avid distaste for even the mere sight of blood.
