The Man Who Stepped In

A/N: I play different games and this guy has been always part of my "hear me out" list, oh god the first character in MLBB that had me simping on

Fredrinn was born into the House Vance, one of the most powerful and aristocratic families in the Moniyan Empire.

* The Burden of the Firstborn: As the eldest son, his life was mapped out before he was born. He was tutored in etiquette, military strategy, philosophy, and business management. He was groomed to be the perfect Duke.

* The Contrast: Unlike his younger brother Harley (who was spoiled and mischievous) or his adopted sister Lesley (who was disciplined and dutiful), Fredrinn felt suffocated. He saw the noble lifestyle as a "golden cage"—comfortable, but lifeless. He despised the hypocrisy of the nobles who smiled at parties while plotting behind each other's backs.

* The Ultimatum: His father, Duke Vance, grew tired of Fredrinn sneaking out to mingle with commoners and "rabble." The Duke arranged for Fredrinn to be sent to the Monastery of Light (where heroes like Alucard were trained) for "spiritual reformation."

* The Escape: The night before he was to be sent away, Fredrinn left his family crest on his desk and vanished. He took nothing of his inheritance, choosing to survive on his own merits.

II. The Era of "Fredrinn & Fray"

After fleeing the capital, Fredrinn realized he had no street smarts. He was nearly swindled and starved until he met Fray.

* Who was Fray? Fray was an explorer—a commoner with no status but immense knowledge of the world, ancient ruins, and survival. He was the opposite of Fredrinn: cautious where Fredrinn was reckless, and practical where Fredrinn was idealistic.

* The Brotherhood: They became a legendary duo of treasure hunters. Fredrinn provided the muscle and the charisma; Fray provided the navigation and the brains. For the first time, Fredrinn felt truly alive. He wasn't "Lord Vance"; he was just Fredrinn.

III. The Incident at the Altar

This is the pivotal moment that defines his current existence.

* The Location: The duo discovered an unmapped ruin deep within a forgotten region, rumored to hold a relic from the Ancient Ones.

* The Relic: Inside, they found a sinister, pulsating spirit crystal suspended over an altar. It was highly unstable.

* The Trap: As they approached, the ruin’s defense mechanisms triggered. The chamber began to collapse, and the crystal's containment field shattered. The released energy was enough to vaporize a human instantly.

* The Sacrifice: Realizing they couldn't both escape, Fray made a split-second decision. He knew Fredrinn's body (honed by noble combat training and naturally resilient) might withstand the energy, while his own would not. Fray grabbed the crystal and forcibly shoved it into Fredrinn's chest.

* The Result: The crystal fused with Fredrinn's heart. The surge of energy knocked Fredrinn unconscious. When he woke up, he was outside the ruins, alive, with the crystal pulsating in his chest. Fray—and the ruin itself—had vanished without a trace.

IV. The "Rogue Appraiser" of Los Pecados

Fredrinn spent years searching the rubble, but found no body. He discovered that the compass Fray gave him (an antique that supposedly points to "what you desire most" or "true north") was spinning wildly, never settling. This convinced him that Fray was not dead, but displaced in a different dimension or timeline.

He moved to Los Pecados (The City of Sin) in the Agelta Drylands for specific reasons:

* Information Hub: It is a lawless melting pot where artifacts from all over the world are sold. If a clue about the crystal or the Ancient Ones exists, it will pass through Los Pecados.

* No Questions Asked: In Los Pecados, no one cares that he is a runaway Vance noble.

His Current Operations:

* The Shop: He bought an old building and turned it into an Appraisal House. He is the ultimate authority on treasure in the city.

* The Persona: He cultivates the image of a greedy, arrogant merchant who charges exorbitant fees. He often says, "Everything has a price," but this is ironic. He creates this persona to keep people at a distance so he never has to experience the pain of losing a friend again.

* The Wealth: He is filthy rich, but he spends almost all his money on expeditions and informants to find Fray.

V. Abilities & Combat Lore

His powers are not magic in the traditional sense; they are a curse he turned into a weapon.

* The Crystal (Crystalline Armor): The shard in his chest absorbs kinetic energy. When Fredrinn takes a hit, the crystal stores that pain/energy (represented in-game as "Crystal Energy").

* The Sword: He wields a massive greatsword that looks like a slab of stone or metal. It is likely an artifact he appraised and kept for himself.

* Fighting Style: He fights with reckless abandon. He wants to get hit because taking damage charges his crystal, allowing him to unleash devastating counter-attacks. This mirrors his psychological state: he endures pain to find strength.

VI. Relationships Map

| Character | Relationship | Details |

| Fray | Best Friend / Missing | The only person Fredrinn truly cares about. Fredrinn talks to the compass as if he is talking to Fray. |

| Harley | Younger Brother | Fredrinn remembers Harley as a brat. Harley knows Fredrinn ran away but doesn't know the full tragic backstory. Fredrinn is proud of Harley's independence but keeps his distance to protect him. |

| Lesley | Adopted Sister | The only person in the Vance family Fredrinn feared/respected due to her strictness. He avoids her because she would try to drag him back to the Empire. |

| Claude | Nuisance / Rival | Claude is a master thief in Los Pecados. He often tries to steal from Fredrinn's shop. Fredrinn finds him annoying but tolerates him because Claude sometimes brings rare items that might be clues. |

| Bane / Aurora / Franco | Customers | Various heroes pass through Los Pecados. Fredrinn treats them all the same: potential customers to be fleeced for information or money. |

VII. Key Quotes & Philosophy

* "The only thing that never lies is the crystal in my chest." (Referring to the pain being real).

* "Fray... just wait for me."

* "I'm not interested in your stories, only your treasures." (His public persona).
