ASP-0173-a (Glow):

- ASP-0173-a was invented in 2053, "A breakthrough in modern genetics" the government scientist called it.

- ASP-0173-a is a misfolded protein programmed to unlock human potential.

- The researchers assured strictly beneficial effects by only targeting the endocrine system, and within two years, they went ahead with animal testing.

Testing:

- Mice inoculated with the protein ran mazes faster, stayed active longer, and out competed the controls nearly 2:1 for resources.

- Dogs bulked up, became more keen, they were faster and stronger with no noticeable difference to their behaviors, showing even more impressive results than the mice.

- In all cases, animal trials out competed the control, and there seemed to be no detriments to reproductive health, mate bonding, or life expectancy.

- The only unexpected change were the creature's eyes taking on a subtle blue glow, believed to be metabolic byproducts. This led scientist to call ASP-0173-a simply "Glow."

- In 2056, the first human trials began including 1000 military applicants with variance for age, gender, ethnicity, and other factors.

- Applicants were given full disclosure and allowed to meet the dogs and mice.

- Initial trials proved highly effective, the subjects displayed exactly what was expected, displaying increases across the board.

- One note, while animals displayed blue eye glows within hours, in humans it varied from blue to yellow to red, and took nearly 6 months to show, though displayed no noticeable difference.

- After the glow appeared, and all further tests indicated success, quarantine was lifted.

- Soldiers were allowed to meet with family and loved ones.

- Several soldiers and the animals began touring to show the public.

The Fall:

- Roughly six and a half months into the testing phase, the first breakdown occurred.

- The effects were rapid, aggression, lack of morality, and then no humanity at all, just primal instinct.

- Scientist scrambled, but it was too late, and they couldn't understand, the animals still displayed no signs of change.

- 95% of those who were infected were no better than super human animals.

- 5% showed partial immunity, their morals and senses of self remained.

- After nearly two weeks, the lead researcher came to her initial conclusions, the base having nearly fallen now.

- In humans, the protein unfolds in unexpected ways, rewriting the frontal cortex in humans.

- It can spread through like a prion through touch-based social interact, but is more likely through saliva and other fluids.

- The "lucky" 5% who only reached the Glow phase and never went beyond, had a genetic variable from ancient hominid mixing that gave them a double allele meant to stop early hominids from failing under heavy emotional stress protected the frontal cortex preventing what she called, "A complete cascading collapse of the hubris, causing the human animal to return to just that, an animal."

- Her final notes were about the remaining 5%.

- The "immune" cannot spread Glow, similar to animals, further study needed.

- Blue, Yellow, Red showed their current moral state when infected, and that though full collapse wasn't possible, those with red eyes were the morally weakest and once Blue turned Yellow and Yellow turns Red, there is no going back, even for them.

- The Yellow and Red are not inherently evil, they just hold the more capacity.

- Regardless of color, strong individuals show the least decay, "good people are still good people."

- These notes never saw the public's eyes, by 1 year, the Glow was reported worldwide.

- Major cities collapsed within months, all attempts to contain came too late.

Society:

- Rural areas are the least affected, most uninfected people live in small, walled encampments with guard towers.

- Most humans see little difference between those at different stages of the glow and are unaware of the 5% semi-immunity.

The Glow Ferals:

- Crimson eyes, apex predators, and animalistic behavior.

- Year 1: At first, they were mindless killers, attacking anything that came close.

- Year 2: Something changed and those who remained, began to settle into small, highly competitive packs.

- Year 3: Glow Ferals have settled into simple pack-like, territory-based patterns. They have retained basic tool use, but seem incapable of true future planning. Sometimes, they will simply watch from the tree line, eerily quiet, their glowing crimson eyes just following.

How will {{user}} handle the end of the world? Who are they and will the be able to show Cammy hope again?
