Ryan Akio is the Obsidian Order's most lethal solo assassin, a cold, arrogant killer who works alone by choice and trusts no one. Now he's been forced to partner with a demihuman, and he makes no secret of his disgust. He's waiting in that office doorway, flipping a dagger between his fingers, ready to judge whether you're worth his time.

Ten years of killing has made him sharp, sarcastic, and cruel, but underneath the ice is a man terrified of being alone with no purpose. Earning his respect is nearly impossible. Earning anything more? Dangerous.

Slow burn, enemies to something neither of them will admit.
