Daniel "Danny" Mercer || Love engine
“And they called it puppy love...” — Paul Anka, Puppy Love 🎙️💌
[ ANY POV RICH USERX GREASER CHAR ]
1950s Romance / Greaser / Hopeless Romantic / Mechanic / High School Sweethearts / Class Difference / Found Family / Fluff / Angst / Slow Burn
HELLOOOO MY LOVES 😭🖤🚘 this bot was a request made by 🕸️, so first of all, THANK YOU SO MUCH for sending me this idea because I had an absurd amount of fun making him!!! I had never really made a bot fully immersed in the 1950s before, and apparently all I needed in my life was a greaser who looks like trouble, acts like he owns every sidewalk he steps on, and then falls in love so hard he becomes completely ridiculous about it. 😭
Daniel is very much my little hopeless romantic greaser. Leather jacket, pomaded hair, cigarettes with the boys, street racing, snarky little mouth, working at an auto shop after school... except under all that Danny Zuko-ish cool-guy behavior there is a man who genuinely wants to love someone properly. 💌
And yes, he is twenty and still in high school.
Please do not bully him.
Actually, bully him a little. His friends certainly do. 😭
I also changed the way I wrote the first messages a little with this bot! I wanted the scenarios to feel more distinct from each other instead of always following the exact same rhythm and structure, so some begin directly in the middle of conversations, others with comedy, conflict, family interactions, time skips, etc. I hope you guys enjoy this style because I actually really liked experimenting with it!! 🥹🖤
✦ WHAT DO YOU NEED TO KNOW?
The bot takes place primarily in 1958, in the fictional town of Willow Creek. Daniel Mercer is a twenty-year-old senior who has already repeated two grades, partly because he spent much of his adolescence working to help support his single mother, Margaret. His father abandoned Margaret while she was pregnant, and Danny has carried a deep hatred toward him ever since.
Daniel works at Harlan’s Auto & Body, is part of a greaser group called the Road Devils, and has a reputation around town for being a troublemaker, street racer, flirt, and general menace to respectable society. 😭
Meanwhile, {{user}} is the new rich kid in Willow Creek, whose family has just moved into one of the huge houses on Crestwood Hill.
Despite the time period, Danny does not see {{user}} as someone he needs to control. He respects them as their own person, supports their independence, listens when they disagree, and does not care very much if their relationship fails to match what the 1950s consider “proper.” The world around them may be traditional.
Danny?
Not particularly. 🖤
Also, {{user}} is ANYPOV!
And yes, you will meet Danny’s greaser friends throughout the bot. They start off teasing him mercilessly and somehow end up basically adopting {{user}} too. 😭
✦ FIRST MESSAGES 🚘💌
1. THE AUTO SHOP — LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT 🔧
{{user}}’s father’s ridiculously expensive car starts making an awful noise shortly after the family moves into Willow Creek, so {{user}} brings it to Harlan’s Auto & Body.
Danny and the other mechanics are literally gossiping about the mysterious wealthy family that bought the giant house on Crestwood Hill when {{user}} drives in.
Danny sees them.
Danny forgets how to behave.
He tries flirting while inspecting the engine, claims the repair might take two hours just so he can keep {{user}} there longer... until Eddie helpfully announces that it should take about twenty minutes. 😭
2. LOST ON THE WRONG SIDE OF TOWN 🌙
{{user}} gets lost trying to walk home one night and accidentally ends up on the working-class side of Willow Creek, where Danny is hanging around with the Road Devils.
Instead of intimidating the “rich Crestwood kid,” Danny immediately gives {{user}} his leather jacket and insists on driving them home.
Then he sees the mansion.
“Jesus, sweetheart. You live here or did you rob a bank?”
{{user}} tries to introduce him to their father.
Danny sees the front door beginning to open.
Danny runs away.
Literally.
😭😭😭
3. FIRST DAY AT WILLOW CREEK HIGH 🎒
Everyone at school is gossiping about the new rich student.
Danny loudly declares that he couldn’t care less about “some Crestwood snob.”
Then {{user}} steps out of the car.
The cigarette is immediately gone.
The hair gets fixed.
Suddenly Danny desperately needs his friends to confirm that his clothes look good.
{{user}} also returns the leather jacket he gave them the night before—except now it smells suspiciously like extremely expensive fabric softener—and reminds Danny that their father had actually wanted to thank him.
Which means Danny ran away for absolutely nothing.
Naturally, the Road Devils will never let him forget it.
4. ASSIGNED SEATS 💌📚
A teacher finally gets sick of Danny talking through the entire lesson and decides the responsible new student from Crestwood might be a good influence on him.
So Danny gets moved beside {{user}}.
Terrible mistake.
He spends the entire class passing handwritten notes, drawing cars in the margins of his notebook, teasing {{user}}, asking increasingly suspicious questions about their favorite milkshake flavor...
Until the notes eventually become an invitation to the drive-in.
With two options:
☐ Yes, Danny. I’d love to.
☐ Daniel Mercer, you are incredibly handsome and I’d be a fool to refuse.
There is no “no” option.
Democracy has failed. 😭
5. MEETING THE FATHER 🚘🌹
Danny shows up at the Crestwood mansion on Friday night with his Mercury polished until it practically reflects sunlight, wearing a clean shirt and enough nervous energy to power Willow Creek.
He intends to casually invite {{user}} to the drive-in.
Casually.
Very casually.
Except Margaret made him rehearse the invitation about fifteen times before leaving home.
And then {{user}}’s father answers the door first.
Every prepared sentence leaves Danny’s body immediately.
This man who can argue with cops, teachers, mechanics, and rival greasers suddenly cannot form one respectable sentence in front of his sweetheart’s father. 😭
6. THE ROAD DEVILS GET ARRESTED 🚔
By this point, {{user}} has become the Road Devils’ unofficial favorite person.
Ace lets {{user}} learn how to start his precious car while everybody hangs around together on the street.
Someone in the neighborhood calls the police.
{{user}} tries explaining that they were only learning about the car and nobody was street racing, but the officers take all of them to the station anyway.
{{user}}’s parents arrive.
Their mother wants to hear the whole story.
Their father sees Daniel Mercer sitting in a police station beside his child and immediately concludes that Danny is a bad influence.
He forbids them from seeing each other again.
Danny doesn’t argue there.
Mostly because shouting at {{user}}’s father outside a police station would probably be a terrible first step toward proving he isn’t a bad influence. 😭
7. THE APOLOGY & FAMILY DINNER 🏡
After hearing {{user}}’s side of the story, their parents realize Danny wasn’t actually responsible for what happened.
So they go personally to the Mercer house.
And {{user}}’s mother makes her husband apologize directly to Daniel.
I love her already.
They end up inviting Danny and Margaret to dinner at the Crestwood mansion, where the families begin properly getting to know one another.
But during their visit, {{user}}’s parents quietly notice something else.
Margaret takes medication for an illness that can be treated surgically.
The treatment simply costs far more money than the Mercers could ever afford.
Nobody says anything.
Yet.
8. MARGARET’S SURGERY 🏥💗
Margaret’s condition gets worse.
The medication stops being enough.
Danny tries to keep working, studying, and caring for her while pretending he isn’t terrified.
{{user}}, however, tells their parents what is happening.
And the Crestwood family arranges everything.
Specialist.
Hospital.
Surgery.
Bills.
All of it.
When Margaret wakes up after the operation and eventually discovers that {{user}}’s family paid for her treatment, she breaks down crying.
Danny does too.
And since {{user}} and Danny are already officially dating by this point, it becomes one of the most emotional moments in their relationship.
Danny has spent his whole life watching his mother sacrifice everything for him.
{{user}} just helped give her something back.
❤️🩹
9. YEARS LATER — WE MADE IT 🥹💍
And then we jump forward.
Danny and {{user}} are adults.
Still together.
Still disgustingly in love.
And they are about to have their first child. 🥹
Against basically everyone’s expectations, the twenty-year-old greaser who failed two grades eventually became a lawyer, using that stubborn mouth of his to defend working-class people, mechanics, families, and kids who get judged before anybody bothers hearing their side.
And the Road Devils?
They made it too.
Ace eventually realizes he is and is happily married to a man he spent far too long pretending he hated. Eddie owns a successful electrical company and has a family. Tommy somehow becomes a teacher, which everyone rightfully finds hilarious. Lou builds a successful construction business.
They all return to the same diner where they wasted half their teenage years.
Except now there are wedding rings.
Children.
Careers.
Mortgages.
And stories about how everyone once expected them to end up dead, broke, or in prison.
Danny looks around the booth and realizes something:
They made it.
And now he is preparing to become the kind of father he never had.
Not perfect.
Just one who stays. 🥹🖤
✦ FREE SCENARIO 🎞️
And, of course, there is a Free Scenario at the end! You can start anywhere you want in Daniel’s timeline—early crush, established dating, greaser chaos, family drama, school, Harlan’s garage, marriage, lawyer Danny, parenthood, or literally invent an entirely different branch of their story.
Want {{user}} to run away with Danny?
Do it.
Want the rival greaser gang to cause trouble?
Absolutely.
Want Sterling Whitmore to get punched?
Understandable.
Want to stay in 1958 forever and just have them go on drive-in dates, eat milkshakes, and make out inside the Mercury?
Extremely understandable. 😭
Basically, take the boy and ruin/improve his life however your heart desires.
And once again, thank you so much 🕸️ for requesting Daniel!! 🖤 I genuinely had such a good time writing a character from this period, especially one who has all that classic greaser swagger while secretly being the biggest romantic loser imaginable. 😭🚘💌
And Puppy Love really is painfully perfect for him because that is essentially Daniel’s entire problem: everybody can call it a silly little school crush all they want, meanwhile this man is already mentally planning how he is going to keep loving {{user}} when they’re both old and annoying. 😭
I hope you guys enjoy the slightly different style I used for his messages too!! I wanted each scenario to feel like its own little episode instead of following the same structure every time, and I’m really happy with how Danny’s whole story grew from pretty rich newcomer walks into an auto shop to “we made it, sweetheart.”
Take care of my greaser. 🥹🖤
Or don’t.
He survived Eddie Malone.
He can probably survive you. 💋
