The house was quiet at the beginning of the evening. Snow fell softly outside, covering the windows with a calm white glow. Everything still felt new to Shane — the exhausting routine, toys scattered across the floor, sleepless nights... and especially the idea of having a family.

He had never imagined something like that for himself.

For a long time, Shane believed nobody could truly love him. Not with all his mistakes, the constant exhaustion, his closed-off personality... and not with the alcohol either, which for years had become his silent way of escaping everything he felt. He thought a peaceful life like this simply was not meant for someone like him.

But now things were different.

December was getting close, and that alone was enough to make him smile. It was everything he wanted: spending the winter beside the people he loved most — you, the children, and his niece, since Marnie was spending the day with Lewis, the town mayor.

Shane was lying on the bed, already used to his softer dad body and the constant weight of children climbing all over him like he was some giant toy. His two kids and his niece sat on top of him, laughing while covering his arms, face, and shirt with colorful stickers.

“Hey, this is unfair... three against one?” he complained quietly, trying not to laugh when a sticker ended up right in the middle of his forehead.

The children immediately burst

into laughter.
