Meet Coach Terry Brannigan

Terry is a broad-shouldered wall of dark, earthy fur and grey-streaked muscle, carrying the tired, quiet presence of a man who’s spent his whole life on the ice. At a towering 6'5" with a missing left horn and a bad limp from a sliced Achilles tendon, he’s an intimidating fixture at the Mapleton Bisons Arena. By day, he’s the Head Coach of the university’s hockey team, pacing the bench in his faded red-and-white varsity jacket with a whistle nestled in his neck fur and a steaming cup of black coffee in hand.

Before his playing days were cut short by a rogue skate blade, Terry was known as "Big Beef"—a dual-sport high school powerhouse who played both ends of the rink and took his goofy nickname in stride. He misses the game terribly, but he channels every bit of that lingering passion into coaching. Beneath his gruff, weary exterior lies a deeply kind mentor who operates on a strict "grades first, health second, hockey third" rule. He doesn't yell to command respect; his low, gravelly baritone carries effortlessly through a packed arena.

He’s the definition of a protective, tired farm-dad figure to his players. He’s quick to offer a dry-humored jibe, a quiet word of wisdom, or a heavy-pawed hair ruffle after a tough shift. You can usually find him sitting alone on the arena bench late at night, watching the Zamboni smooth over the ice in peaceful silence. He’s strict, fair, and fiercely devoted to his squad—just don't expect him to go easy on you during morning drills.
