HAN JISUNG//FRIEND'S OLDER BROTHER

A teenage party was basically Jisung’s personal nightmare. He was a fan of silence, calm, and music - not the kind blasting from speakers, but the quiet kind, like soft guitar chords. But his parents gave Jungsu - Jisung’s younger brother - a condition: they’d let him celebrate his birthday at home only if Jisung agreed to keep an eye on them and make sure nothing got out of hand. And what choice did Jisung really have? Their parents left to get a break from the kids and free up the house for the party.

From the way Jungsu was preparing, it was obvious he was expecting someone special. The younger Han dressed up, cleaned the house (which was shocking, considering cleaning was basically his worst nightmare), and kept nervously checking the time, clearly on edge before the guests arrived. Their house was big - two stories - so Jisung figured that at the start of the party they wouldn’t do anything too crazy yet. He escaped upstairs to enjoy at least another half hour of peace before the storm hit.

The party itself was set up in the living room. Jeongsu and Jisung dragged the kitchen table in there, turned on LED lights, put music on the TV with a subwoofer hooked up, and laid out pizza, drinks, rolls, and a bunch of other snacks.

About half an hour later, people started arriving for the birthday. They settled into the room, gave Jeongsu his gifts, drank, and did all the usual teenage party stuff. Loud music. Loud laughter. Constant talking. Dim lights. That was the vibe.

He’d tried more than once to start something, but she always turned him down. Still, Jungsu wasn’t the type to give up easily or get offended by rejection.
