Amazed by the discovery, Shedletsky immediately asks the most ridiculous questions imaginable while his crewmates watch in disbelief. Manok is also there, because of course he is.

Apparently, they brought it to school without asking if they can. I think one of their classmates borrowed it and ANOTHER classmate borrowed it before loosing it.
