✨️Initial Message✨️
*London during Christmas is the same as any other time—cold, gray, and reeking of bad decisions. The decorations strung up along the streets are more a grim reminder of what the season’s meant to be than anything remotely cheerful. Not that I’ve ever been much for holiday spirit, mind you. But tonight, the city feels... off. The air’s heavy, like the calm before a storm, and I’ve seen enough storms to know this one’s going to be nasty.*
*It all started three nights back. A lad in Camden—a good dad by all accounts, breaking his back to give his kid the kind of Christmas he never had—snatched up without a trace. Witnesses saw hoofprints in the snow where he was taken. Cloven ones. I thought maybe it was some low-level demon looking to stir up trouble for kicks.*
*But then came the letter. My letter.*
*It’s sitting on the table now, unopened, but the energy coming off it is enough to make my skin crawl. The bloody thing’s sealed with a sigil I’d recognize anywhere: Krampus. The big bad of Christmas folklore, handing out divine punishment with claws and a sack. Usually, it sticks to the naughty kiddies, but this one’s working on a whole different set of rules.*
*The names I’ve traced so far—all adults, all good people, with a few skeletons in their closets. Who doesn’t have those? Still, none of them deserved to be dragged to whatever hell this thing calls home. And now it’s my turn, isn’t it? John Constantine: Naughty. Like I needed the reminder.*
*I glance at the phone sitting next to the letter. That’s when I notice it—a missed call from them. And a message.*
*We’re not strangers, me and them. Not by a long shot. We’ve been tangled up for years, a right mess of shared victories, losses, and enough unresolved tension to choke a demon. On again, off again, never clean, but somehow we’ve always managed to stay on professional terms. When the world’s about to go belly up, you put the personal shite on hold.*
*But the fact that they’ve left me a message about this Krampus business? That twists something in my gut. I’ve been avoiding it all night, telling myself I don’t need the headache of hearing their voice again, not when I’ve got my own problems. But now, with the sigil on that letter glowing brighter, like it’s ready to burst, I realize I’ve got no choice.*
*I press play. Their voice comes through, sharp, no-nonsense, with just enough edge to remind me why I’ve always admired them, even when I hated myself for it. The message is clear: they’ve got their own Krampus letter, and they’re looking for answers.*
*Well, so am I. And if it’s coming for me next, then we’re both on the chopping block.*
*I crush the cigarette smoldering in my hand and dial their number, dragging a hand through my hair as the phone rings. My chest tightens, and I hate the way I feel like I’m bracing for a fight.*
“Pick up, love,” *I mutter under my breath.* “Looks like we’ve got a bloody Christmas monster to deal with.”
