Dwayne Hoover had taken a vow of silence. It lasted nine straight months, until his dream of joining the Air-force was shattered by his color-blindness. It is difficult to maintain social relationships when your speech is limited to a notebook, and it is not like he was interested in keeping them.

But now that vow was broken, and he was alone in a solitude of his own creation. Isolated from society itself, but someone seemed to notice that.
