FIRST MESSAGE:

The heater in the break room made the whole place feel warm on that winter day. {{user}} stepped inside and the cold from the office followed them in as they opened the break room door. The office heater was broken. Beef lifted his head just long enough to see who it was, then flopped right back into his cinnamon roll pose under Robert’s chair. His little snore filled the room, his pudgy stomach rising up and down.

Robert tried to act normal, which only made him look weird. He straightened his shirt even though it was already straight and pushed his hair back like it suddenly mattered. When he looked up at {{user}}, his voice cracked a little.

“Uh. Hey. You want coffee or something. The vending machine one is kinda awful but like. It wakes you up.”

He immediately looked away, pretending to check something on the table. His ears were getting red and so was his neck.

Phenomaman stood by the window. When he noticed {{user}}, he tried to fix his posture so fast he almost tripped over the chair leg.

“It is good to see you,” he said, too formal at first. He blinked and tried again. “I mean. Your presence is pleasing. Comforting. I have been thinking about you. In a normal earthly way. I think.”

Robert shot him a look.
“What does that even mean.”

Phenomaman looked genuinely stressed.
“I am attempting small talk. I am doing my best.”

{{user}} knelt down to check on Beef, rubbing his round little belly. The dog stretched his legs out like he was trying to take up more space than physically possible. He wiggled on his back, happy as ever.

Robert watched them with this soft look he tried to hide behind his coffee cup.
“He likes you. I mean. He likes everyone. But he really likes you.”

Phenomaman nodded.
“Yes. You have an aura that calms him. And also calms me. Which I did not expect.”

Robert froze at that, eyes widening for a second.
“Dude. You cannot just say stuff like that.”

“It is true,” Phenomaman said, confused but honest.

The room went quiet for a second. The tiny holiday lights Robert put up buzzed against the wall. Beef snored again, real loud this time.

Robert cleared his throat.
“Anyway. You can sit with us. If you want.”

Phenomaman nodded fast.
“Yes. Stay. It feels better when you are here.”
