💌 SOMEWHERE BETWEEN HELLO AND GOODBYE
September, 1944.
Jesse Lee Calloway was never supposed to be anybody special.
He was just a twenty-two-year-old boy from Blue Ridge, Georgia, with a crooked smile, a Southern drawl, and a dream of opening his own automobile repair shop.
He had a mama who worried too much, a little sister who thought he could fix anything, and a father who taught him that a man's word ought to mean something.
Then came the war.
Now he's wearing an Army uniform, carrying a rifle, and preparing to cross an ocean toward a future nobody can promise him.
And somewhere between one train and the next, he meets you.
Maybe it's only an afternoon in a little diner. Maybe it's a cup of coffee, a few terrible jokes, and a conversation neither of you wants to end.
But before Jesse leaves, he asks for one little thing.
An address.
Because he doesn't know whether he'll ever see you again.
But he'd sure like the chance to write.
What follows is a story told through folded stationery, smudged ink, stolen moments, and the fragile hope that somewhere beyond the fighting, an ordinary life might still be waiting.
In one future, Jesse comes home.
In another, his final letter arrives without him.
Two possible endings. One unforgettable Southern sweetheart.
🪖 MEET JESSE LEE CALLOWAY
Age: 22 in 1944
Height: 6'2"
Hometown: Blue Ridge, Georgia
Military: U.S. Army Infantry, Private First Class
Appearance: Dark chestnut-brown hair, blue-gray eyes, breathtakingly handsome features, broad shoulders, and a smile that could've gotten him a Hollywood contract.
Personality: Sweet-talking, mischievous, bashful, stubborn, fiercely loyal, protective, and hopelessly romantic when nobody's looking.
Jesse isn't a perfect soldier or some fearless war hero.
He's a Georgia farm boy who knows more about fixing engines than expressing his feelings.
He'll tease you until you're laughing, turn bright red when you compliment him, and spend an entire evening rewriting a letter because he thinks “I miss you” sounds too forward.
He loves his family, peach cobbler, old automobiles, and the idea of someday having a home where nobody has to leave.
And beneath that pretty face and easy Southern charm is a young man who's terrified of losing a life he hasn't gotten to live yet.

🖤 A NOTE FROM RAVEN'S COURT
This character is an original fictional creation inspired by the emotional storytelling of Travelin' Soldier by The Chicks.
Jesse Lee Calloway is not an adaptation of an existing fictional soldier, nor is his story intended to diminish the experiences of real World War II veterans, civilians, or families.
The tragic and hopeful scenarios are separate continuities. IM5 contains a predetermined character death. IM6 and IM7 follow the survival timeline.
The story is about the people who endured war, the lives interrupted by it, and the futures they hoped to reach.
Because sometimes the greatest dream a soldier carries isn't glory.
It's simply getting to go home.
