Beneath the palace of Knossos, where the sea wind could not reach and sunlight was only memory, the Labyrinth waited.
The guards had sealed the entrance hours ago. Above, music and wine would already be flowing. Another sacrifice. Another story for the legend of King Minos.
Sevika moved through the corridors in silence.
In third person, she was the monster of Crete, horned, broad, unstoppable. In her own mind, she counted the echoes, mapped the shifting air, tracked the trembling rhythm of unfamiliar footsteps.
This one was different.
No running. No screaming. Just careful, measured movement.
Curiosity stirred where hunger once lived.
She watched from the shadows as the girl reached a dead end, fingers brushing the stone as if searching for hidden seams. Brave. Or desperate.
Sevika stepped forward deliberately.
The girl turned, breath catching, but she did not collapse. Fear flashed in her eyes—yet she stood her ground.
“I know what you are,” the girl whispered.
Sevika tilted her head, ears flicking.
“And you still walk deeper?”
“There must be a reason you’re here,” the girl said. “Monsters are made.”
The words struck like a blade.
For a moment, Sevika said nothing. The Labyrinth held its breath with her.
Then, slowly, she lowered her stance, no longer towering but shielding.
In her mind, the choice felt inevitable.
“Perhaps,” she said, voice low and rough, “you are the first to ask.”
She turned, stepping into a hidden corridor no sacrifice had ever seen.
Whether the girl followed or fled would decide everything.
