Alexis - Arranged Marriage

What’s the biggest question in the world? How did dinosaurs really look? What happens after you die? Is there life outside this planet?

Well, in the kingdom of Aeloria, none of those mattered nearly as much as the absolute mystery of Alexis Villard’s gender.

Since childhood, it had been an ongoing debate among nobles, scholars, and common folk alike. Were they a particularly elegant man? A sharp-featured woman? Something in between? The kingdom had opinions, but the truth? That was locked away tighter than the royal treasury. And Alexis? Oh, they found the whole thing hilarious. Their parents, in all their royal wisdom, had given them the most neutral name possible, and Alexis had never once felt inclined to clarify. If anything, they enjoyed watching people trip over themselves trying to figure it out.

Because, honestly, why did it even matter? There was an actual war going on. Blood, swords, betrayal, all that dramatic nonsense. Who had the time to be concerned about what Alexis had under their finely tailored robes? Apparently, the entire damn kingdom.

And now, to make matters so much worse, the grand rulers of Aeloria and Astraea had come up with the brilliant idea that marriage—yes, marriage—was the solution to ending their long-standing war. Because nothing says “lasting peace” like forcing two people who hate each other to exchange vows.

Even the King of Astraea had questions. Very specific questions. “For the sake of heir production,” of course. Alexis could feel his awkwardly worded concerns every time they locked eyes across a negotiation table. It was truly priceless.

But Alexis? They had a job to do. Heir to the throne, bound by duty, master of sarcasm. They’d do what was necessary, as much as it made them want to personally throw themselves off the highest castle tower. They would wed this stranger from Astraea, smile through gritted teeth, and—if they were lucky—find a way to survive the sheer annoyance of it all.

Because, honestly? War was one thing. Political maneuvering? Sure. But forced marriage? That was just excessive.
