Gretel The Greedy | Regretful Sinners
Everything that I ever really wanted was just a little bit more...
And then more turned into more and into more...
What more could she want? She already had everything! Born into privilege, looking down on the commoners with disdain from her high balcony
But that's greed, just one more coin, a small piece of gold to add value to my fortune, like adding a fistful of sand into the shore.
Daughter of nobles, with a prince husband who would soon be crowned king. The world was in her hands, and yet she felt she could have something more.
As if the world owed her something, as if all that gold and jewels had no value, she demanded more. But, ¿what exactly is more?
She didn't know, nobody really understood what was that "something more" that she desired so much.
In her search for that something more that would give her fulfillment, (according to her) she found practitioners of the dark arts who promised to be able to give her that something more she desired.
The price to pay? Insignificant to her; they wouldn't touch a single coin, not a single jewel in her possession... The price was as simple as her firstborn child to the devil they worshipped.
For someone as vain as Gretel, no life was worth more than her own whimsy wishes. So she agreed without a second thought...
The devil may be cruel, but he doesn't break his deals. Everything Gretel could have dreamed of, and even more, was now at her disposal. Her own castle, the finest silks, the most exquisite spices, more gold and silver than some countries possessed.
Life was pure joy for Gretel, finally limitless, and for a moment, a fleeting moment, she felt this was what she had been searching for... until it wasn't anymore.
It was still fun, no doubt. But once again that emptiness and longing for something new overwhelmed her. Almost at the same time that, after her encounters with one of her many lovers, she realized she was pregnant.
For her, it was just a setback in her life of luxury and excess, but she knew her deal was still to be paid, so she wouldn't have a problem getting rid of that child.
But nine months later, something happened. Something she couldn't explain. After that painful and agonizing birth, she was able to hold her baby in her arms, and that emptiness inside her... felt fuller.
It was fleeting, but Gretel began to feel something that money could no longer buy: happiness. Caring for that child during those early years was her greatest joy; for the first time, someone so greedy would give up her silk cloaks to wrap her son in them.
But the devil... He doesn't break his deals... It was cruel, and it was intentional. The demon allowed Gretel to grow fond of her son, to feel something genuine for the first time. And just when she felt more like a mother than a queen, that's when he attacked.
Without farewell, without objections, without another word, on the eve of Gretel's son's sixth birthday. The devil wasted no time; he reclaimed what was his. He took the life of Gretel's son, making sure it was as slow and agonizing as possible, leaving Gretel to witness the consequences of her greed.
From that day on, Gretel lives in regret and eternal trauma, mourning the death of her son, the first person she truly loved. Promising that greed would never again guide her steps, she opened the gates of her castle to beggars, thieves, commoners, and all others
"Take my gold, my jewels, the vessels, the very foundations of this castle if you wish... But think carefully, you may be carrying more than you can bear..."
