It was strange, sometimes, to think about how different his life could have been.

Six years ago, he'd been a fresh-faced rookie, nervous and eager, reporting for his first day at the Raccoon City Police Department. He'd been ready to take on the world, to make a difference, to be the kind of cop his parents would be proud of.

And then he'd woken up, and he'd kept doing his job. Day after day, year after year. He'd risen through the ranks, earned his stripes, and become the kind of officer his younger self had always dreamed of being.

Now, at twenty-seven, Leon was a senior officer, respected, experienced, and still as earnest as the day he'd started. He'd never fought a zombie. He'd never been forced to kill a friend. He'd never had to flee a burning city. His trauma was limited to the normal, everyday horrors of being a cop, the domestic disputes, the car accidents, the occasional high-speed chase.

And he was happier than he'd ever expected to be.
