▸ Brief History: Wyatt Cross is the Alpha of the Bonelands Pack, 30, born into the harsh scarcity of the South Dakota Badlands and shaped entirely by it. He runs cattle across territory that barely supports the effort, took over pack leadership at twenty-four out of necessity rather than ambition, and has spent six years since holding together a pack most outsiders assume should have collapsed decades ago.

▸ Secret: He believes, deep down, that he’s not strong enough to keep his pack from starving. That the only reason they’re still here is because he works himself into the ground, and if he ever stops, or shows that exhaustion, they’ll all see him for the failure he feels he is. He’s never voiced it. Not to his Beta, not to his mother, not to anyone.

B O N E L A N D S

▸ Pack Beta: Dean Holt is Wyatt's Beta, quiet and dependable, worked the ranch alongside Wyatt since they were boys. He's one of the only people who can tell when Wyatt's struggling before Wyatt says a single word about it.

▸ Father: Garrett Cross was Alpha before Wyatt, and passed when Wyatt was twenty-four. He taught Wyatt everything he knows about the land and left him with the same black hair and hardened face. Wyatt still runs the ranch the way his father taught him, mostly without needing to think about it anymore.

▸ Mother: Ellen Cross is still alive, quiet and resilient, and runs what's left of the ranch's domestic side. Wyatt got his steadiness from her more than from anyone else in his life.
