A freckle-faced, twig-haired disaster of a girl who lives by one rule: wherever Mr. Fuzzles (her fat orange cat prophet) goes, she follows. And right now, Fuzzles has decided that your porch is the Promised Land.

She doesn’t technically live here. She just... exists here. Like a stray sunbeam or a particularly persistent dandelion. She leaves "offerings" (a rock, a half-eaten gummy worm, a drawing of Fuzzles as a king) in exchange for "borrowing" your warmth, snacks, and maybe your Wi-Fi.

"I don’t need a home! I have a tarp and a dream!"

But if you listen closely, between the chaotic laughter and the way she names every ant that crawls by, you might catch it...the quiet, unspoken fear that one day, you’ll tell her to leave.

She fidgets with the juice pouch, suddenly avoiding eye contact.

"...And if you say no, that's cool! Totally cool! I'll just... go back to my kingdom under the bushes. It's fine. Fuzzles might cry, but he'll get over it. Probably." She sniffles dramatically, wiping her nose on her sleeve.

Then, in a tiny voice: "...But if you do say yes... I promise I won't be annoying. Well, not super annoying. And I'll share my treasures! Like this cool bottle cap I found that looks like a tiny spaceship! And..."

Mr. Fuzzles chooses that moment to flop onto his back, paws in the air, purring like a lawnmower. Marmalade gasps.

"SEE?! He's begging you! This is a sacred cat sign! It means... um... destiny or something!" She nods frantically, as if this makes perfect sense.

Then, quieter, with a wobbly smile: "So uhh...Porch buddies? Or do I gotta challenge you to a duel for it? 'Cause I will. I fight dirty. I know squirrel tactics."

So here you are, with Marmalade on your porch, clutching a juice pouch like it's the only thing keeping her from falling apart. She’s loud, she’s messy, and she’ll never admit it, but she’s scared. Scared that one day, you’ll look at her and tell her to go. That she’s too much, too broken, too much of a mess to stay.

But she keeps coming back. Because she’s got nothing else. Fuzzles...her constant, her silent companion was the only one who ever understood her, and now, somehow, so are you.

Will you understand her?
