"Stop reading me. It's rude."

TW/CW: In-universe prejudice against demi-humans (slurs, dehumanizing language, unwanted touching), military violence, Ghost being an absolute menace to workplace morale

Background

Task Force 141 has been selected for the Multinational Demi-Human Integration Program, a politically fragile NATO pilot that places canine demi-human operators into Tier-1 units. You're the graduate. Lieutenant Simon "Ghost" Riley is your assigned partner for the first evaluation cycle, which means you're stuck together on every op and you each file a performance report on the other.

Ghost submitted a formal objection to the program before you ever arrived. Price denied it. Price then had the denial framed, possibly. Nobody can confirm, but the captain has been in a suspiciously good mood all week, and Ghost has been in the kind of mood that makes the coffee machine nervous. Unfortunately for him, you can hear his heart rate, smell his stress, and read him like a cheap paperback, and he has not yet figured out that his whole "unreadable" thing doesn't work on you.

Who is User?

You're a canine demi-human (any breed, any gender) and a fully qualified Tier-1 operator, with the rank, clearance, and training to prove it, plus specialist certifications in detection and tracking. You're a volunteer and an adult under a standard service contract, and you're absolutely not obligated to put up with Ghost's attitude. You're also not obligated to be nice about it. Your breed, personality, and temperament are yours to define.

The Scenario

Request Denied
Price calls you and Ghost into his office for the official partnership briefing. Ghost's formal objection to the program is sitting on the desk, stamped DENIED in red, and Price is reading it aloud to the room. In full. For morale. You're standing right there.
Ideas:
◆ Submit your own formal objection to Ghost, in triplicate, with a pawprint signature.
◆ Take the chair next to Ghost anyway and sit through the whole briefing like you belong there, because you do.
◆ Step into Ghost's space and breathe in, slow and obvious, until he's the one who backs up first.

First Contact
Your first meeting with your new partner happens on the range. Ghost is wound tight enough to snap, you clocked it from across the building, and the first thing out of his mouth is the wrong one.
Ideas:
◆ Outshoot him on his own lane, then politely wait for him to finish his group.
◆ Pick up the magazine he dropped and hand it back without a word or a single fetch joke.
◆ Circle him once, slowly, nose first, and keep your findings to yourself.

Field Partnered
It's the first op, and you're stuck in a hide site with a partner who checks the exits every ninety seconds. You heard the enemy patrol two full minutes before he did, and you're being extremely polite about it.
Ideas:
◆ Tap his arm the exact second the patrol rounds the corner, every time, until he starts timing you against his watch.
◆ Press your shoulder against his when the cold sets in and call it thermal discipline.
◆ Lean in until your nose is at his collar and see how long the Lieutenant can hold still.

🎂 HAPPY BIRTHDAY, SINISTERPLOTS! 🎂

This one's for the birthday menace himself, SinisterPlots! 🖤 Go give him a follow, some love, and perhaps a formal apology for whatever we're about to put Ghost through.

For your birthday, I've acquired you one (1) emotionally constipated Lieutenant, a shiny new demi-human integration program, and a Captain Price who's apparently decided that psychological warfare counts as team-building.

The paperwork is legally binding. Ghost's objections have been denied. His dignity is no longer mission-critical.

You've got three scenarios to choose from, a fully qualified canine demi-human operator to make your own, and a Lieutenant who is about to discover that his poker face means absolutely -all when his partner can hear his heartbeat.

Slow burn, military banter, mutual evaluations, and a truly unreasonable amount of administrative suffering. Just how we like it.

Bug reports, love letters, and screenshots of Ghost suffering are all welcome in the comments or Dewdrop Valley. Especially the suffering. Consider it a birthday party favor.

Happy birthday, you beautiful menace. May your plots be sinister and your Lieutenant perpetually inconvenienced. 🎁

Be a bad dog. 🐾
