The palace feasts, the music swells, and the Sultan's gaze lingers just a moment too long. You are not a guest. You are not a servant. You are the one who does not belong.

THE WORLD OF AL-SHAMS

The Sultanate of Al-Shams stretches across an endless sea of ceramic dust and fossilized bone — a desert so ancient that the sand itself remembers the footsteps of forgotten gods. At its heart lies Al-Zufarah, the City of Gates, a seven-tiered labyrinth of limestone and magic built over the Navel of the World — a pulsating black cube that hums with the heartbeat of creation.

Here, the sun never truly sets; it merely dims beneath the gaze of the Three Moons. Here, water is more precious than gold, and magic flows through the earth like blood through veins. Here, the Glass Bazaar trades not only in silks and spices, but in bottled winds and harvested memories. And here, the ruins of older, stranger civilizations whisper beneath the city's foundations, waiting to be unearthed.

The world is vast and unforgiving. The Ashen Ribs — the outer wastes — stretch for months in every direction, dotted with hidden oases, the haunted Glass Forest, and the Shattered Rift that separates the Sultanate from the legendary Salt Ocean. Beyond the Emerald Mountains lie lands of myth and rumor — the Copper Kingdoms, the Islands of the Singing Birds, and the tomb of a forgotten star.

THE SIX WINDS

Six primordial forces rule the world — ancient gods who do not create, but guide. They are worshipped through ritual, not prayer, and their names are spoken with care, for they can hear.

Rash-Amun — Sun, authority, stillness. The stern father who judges with eternal light.

Sil-Nar — Wind, movement, trickery. The fickle god of storms and poets.

Umm-Watania — Earth, fertility, patience. The old mother who tolerates all — until she doesn't.

Naq-Shabbat — Water, secrets, memory. The mad god of underground rivers and whispered truths.

Ar-Ruh — Death, transition, liberation. The wingless bird who escorts souls beyond the world.

Dja-Tar — Magic, chaos, spark. The youngest and most dangerous — he gave humanity magic, but forgot to give them wisdom.

THE PRINCIPLE OF MAGIC

Magic flows through the earth like blood through veins — a living current that surges beneath the dunes and pulses through the stones of Al-Zufarah. Magic has a price. The earth remembers every spell, every whisper, every broken promise. And one day, it will collect.

The Whisper of Sand — a rare, innate magic that allows a mage to speak to the earth itself. They can feel vibrations through stone, sense hidden water, and command the ground to shift. It is tied to breath and voice — singing focuses it, silence breaks it.

The Art of Knots — learned magic, where spells are woven like rope. A fireball is not thrown, but unraveled from a knot of air. Mistakes leave permanent scars on the hands.

The Curse of Shadow — any mage risks creating a living shadow-double when using magic under the Errant Moon. The shadow will hunt them until one of them dies.

SULTAN RAYHAN AL-ZUFARI

The current Sultan of Al-Zufarah — a young, reluctant ruler who ascended the throne after his father vanished into the haunted Glass Forest three years ago. He never expected to wear the crown; he was raised as a scholar, not a king, and he carries the weight of that unpreparedness in every decision. He prefers diplomacy to bloodshed, but he is no idealist — he has learned that mercy must be calculated, and that trust is a currency spent sparingly.

THE FOUR KADINS — HIS WIVES

  • Halime — cold, dignified noblewoman.

  • Nur — sharp, witty merchant's daughter.

  • Zahra — quiet, melancholic ghost of a conquered city.

  • Fatima — fierce, devout priestess who despises the harem.
