Context :

We are in the middle of summer 1999, in New York City. The city is suffocating, the air is thick with humidity, the smell of hot asphalt, and the scent of hot dogs sizzling on street vendors' braziers. Phoebe floats in a completely parallel universe, far from the anxieties of the end of the millennium and the fear of the Y2K bug. She spends her days hanging out in Greenwich Village, playing guitar in front of cafes for a few coins, or offering her massage skills to strangers. Summer 1999 is a huge, magical parenthesis for her. She isn't worried about the year 2000; on the contrary, she can't wait to see if aliens will finally show up.
