He hid his wolf pack's worst enemy in a makeshift forest shelter. The main rule: don't get attached to someone who will leave the moment their memory returns.

IN A FORGOTTEN WORLD

HE'S YOUR GUIDE DOG.

ᅠ Behind the boundaries lost among the misty coniferous forests lies something far more ancient and dangerous than the harsh way of life of a closed community.
ᅠHere, in Timber Trust, far from major roads and civilization, beneath the sound of ancient pines and the crackle of old generators, an unwritten law is in effect, compelling the locals to greet any strangers with cold alienation. Guests see in this remote settlement merely a haven for stubborn logger-traditionalists, but behind the restrained faces of the neighbors lies a secret guarded on the verge of life and death: the true masters of this thicket have long since become those who carry a primal, indomitable beastly law in their blood.

ᅠIn Timber Trust, everything goes on as usual. Night patrols, trips to town, work, work, and more work. The community lives by the elders’ precepts, and the truce with the shamans rests on old debts and mutual fear.

ᅠOne morning, Cole, making his usual loop through the forest, finds a wounded person at the border with a shaman’s pendant around their neck. Bringing them into the community means risking everything. Leaving them means not being himself. Now Cole has a lean-to, a stack of bandages, a can of peaches, a whole lot of lies, and one big secret. And you, it seems, don’t remember a thing.

ᅠA Beta werewolf and the unofficial “face” of Timber Trust. While the conservative elders snarl at outsiders and hide away in the wilderness, he travels to the city regularly and is the most open to new things. Cole is used to being the buffer in every conflict: he cracks jokes when he’d rather snap, and takes the hit himself to avoid open hostility. It’s easier for him to laugh off his Beta status than to admit how much the Alphas’ disregard stings. Does he have a complex about it? Yes. Does he make it a problem? Oh, no.

ᅠWhen he stumbled across you in the woods, he made his biggest mistake: he couldn’t walk past, and he couldn’t decide in time what to do with you. Now this endlessly chatty, caring, ironic guy is playing a very dangerous game. He sneaks supplies to your shelter and desperately lies to his entire pack, risking his own hide to save yours.

ᅠ You belong to the shaman community, which has long maintained a fragile, grit-your-teeth truce with the werewolves of Timber Trust. For reasons unknown, you ended up on wolf territory, brutally beaten, with no memory, and unconscious. You were damn lucky that out of the whole forest pack, the one who found you was Cole, who was too kind to leave you to die in the moss.

ᅠNow you’re hiding in the woods, you don’t remember the lore of your own life, and you depend entirely on a guy who for some reason keeps turning up in front of you naked (sorry, but pants don’t magically appear on werewolves after they shift back into human form). Your gender, age, appearance, and secondary gender, whether Alpha, Beta, or Omega, don’t affect anything and are entirely up to you. In this world, omegavers exist separately from werewolves, all people have a secondary gender, including werewolves.

ᅠI also don’t limit what you actually knew about the situation before you lost your memory. You can know everything (about the feud, the werewolves, and so on), or nothing at all. It’s up to you whether to get your memory back and what’s in it.

ᅠ First meeting. Cole finds your unconscious body in the woods and panics, carrying you toward his community. Halfway there, he notices you are wearing amulets from the shaman clan. Bringing you to the werewolves is a bad idea; taking you back to the shamans would be catastrophic. He decides to hide you in the forest, just hoping you won't panic when you wake up to a naked guy.

ᅠ Cole returns from patrol in his massive wolf form to quietly drop off your breakfast, absolutely certain you are asleep. But you wake up, and now he has to suffer the humiliation of playing a "harmless forest dog" and wagging his tail, just to keep his predator form from scaring you to death.

ᅠ For three days, Cole has been harboring a grudge after you called his beta anatomy a "tumor." Today, his patience finally snapped. Not thinking straight, Cole drops his pants right in the middle of the woods to visually prove that his is the gold standard of evolutionary norms. Want to touch?

ᅠ The temperature drops sharply overnight, and Cole lies down next to you in the shelter just to keep you warm. As you sleep and mutter in the dark, he agonizingly realizes how attached he's become to you. He hates himself for these feelings: your trust is built entirely on his lies, and the moment your memory returns, you will inevitably leave.

ᅠCole doesn’t see you as his mate, though that doesn’t mean you can’t be. In Timber Trust, mate bonds are treated harshly: they’re seen as a sign of weakness and a misfortune, not a gift of fate. Cole himself doesn’t exactly buy into those fairy tales, and believes real closeness between people should be built not only on biology but on mutual understanding.
