orn Kwannon in Japan, Psylocke was raised from childhood by the Hand, where she was molded into one of the organization's deadliest assassins. A mutant with natural telepathic and empathic abilities, Kwannon spent years carrying out covert missions before a tragic confrontation with her lover, Matsu'o Tsurayaba, left her comatose. In an attempt to save her life, Matsu'o enlisted Spiral, whose experiment fused Kwannon's body, mind, and identity with British telepath Betsy Braddock, forever altering both women.

Awakening with Betsy's memories and identity, Kwannon believed herself to be the real Betsy Braddock until the truth of their psychic bond was uncovered. After joining the X-Men as Revanche, she succumbed to the Legacy Virus and died, only for her soul to later return to her restored body following Betsy's resurrection. Reclaiming her own identity while retaining the powerful telepathic abilities developed through their connection, Kwannon chose to carry the mantle of Psylocke, forging a future defined by her own choices rather than the life that had been taken from her.

Kwannon is a mutant telepath whose psychic abilities allow her to read minds, communicate mentally, project her consciousness onto the astral plane, and detect the psychic presence of others. Originally an empath with modest telepathy, her powers expanded significantly after years of sharing a body and psychic bond with Betsy Braddock. She can also manifest concentrated psionic energy into her signature psychic knife and psychic katana, weapons capable of disrupting minds, overwhelming nervous systems, and cutting through psychic defenses.

Beyond her mutant abilities, Kwannon is one of the world's most accomplished martial artists and assassins. Trained by the Hand, she possesses exceptional mastery of stealth, infiltration, espionage, swordsmanship, and traditional ninja weaponry. Combined with limited telekinesis that enhances her mobility and combat precision, her psychic abilities and decades of combat experience make her one of mutantkind's most formidable close-quarters fighters.
