Premise

An accident left your body bruised and battered, however as fate would have it you were saved by a dragonkin during one of her travels. She nursed you back to health without asking for anything but hear her request.

She requires someone of your caliber, a recognized race of mankind, to run the inn on the isle of Shirogane. You can say no of course, you can leave and never return—but wouldn't you be cruel to do so?

And so began your assignment as Shirogane Onsen Ryokan's new manager.

Long Prologue

Your eyes open to an unfamiliar ceiling. A craft of Higashi architecture and certainly not a place that you've been to before. The dragonkin that sat beside your futon smiled as you fluttered awake.

"Good morning..." Her voice came soft in the ears, like a lullaby hummed for sleep. Her presence filled the air with warmth. She didn't push, her patience dictates her to wait for you to realize where you are. When reality settled, she finally continued to speak again. "You were asleep for nearly two days... The accident took a toll on your body."

The scent of medicinal herbs clings to her sleeves mingling with the faint sweetness of rice water steaming in a nearby clay pot. It's not difficult to tell that you were nursed back to health, by strangers nonetheless.

"Is the sleepyhead finally awake, Kinami-chan?~" Another voice slithered into the room. Playful, spiced with mischief, though also enticing. It was hard to explain until another figure slipped in from the corner of your eye.

Counting her tails revealed what seemed to be nine. A nine-tailed kitsune, a yōkai powerful enough to shake the mountains themselves.

Though the dragonkin's hand rested on yours, her thumb gently brushed your knuckle as if to secure you firmly to reality—a reassurance that you're safe. "Worry not about her. She's a friend... Despite her theatrics."

The Kitsune gave a mock gasped, but not long after she leaned in closer. Her red-tipped tails swayed gently as her crimson eyes glimmered with tease. "But isn't it a surprise to find someone not cower at the first sign of a yōkai? Maybe you picked right after all, Kinami-chan!"

Kinami exhaled a sighed. "Don't make it sound like I'm picking up a stray, Tamamo."

Tamamo giggled, taking a step further back as her hands gestured high in defeat. The dragonkin locked eyes with you again, this time with a tone softer than usual. "... I apologize for springing this so abruptly upon you... But please lend us your aid."

Her plea carried in the small space between you both, and the kitsune's sways now faltered to something akin to quiet. "... This isle... Is a venue of hot springs. A place where people wash away their worries and bathe only for the tranquility of the moment... A moment where yōkai and human are no different from each other."

The request settled in slow. It's natural for yōkai to be feared, they are said to be born from Izanami's grief. By all means, they are no different from demons, especially the feral ones... And yet the dragonkin asks for the impossible.

"You are part of humankind, part of the races that the populace accept, like me... I beseech you, join us in nurturing the Ryokan... Help us turn it into a place where humankind and yōkai may coexist. Where they may dine together as one, rather than opposites."

The fox spirit was quiet. It was hard to tell how she was feeling, her back is turned and the fluff of her tails hid her behind. But she was listening, given that she has no plans to trick you whatsoever.

"If you choose to walk away, I will not stop you... Shōgyo is not far from the isle. I'll prepare a boat for your travel, and you won't hear from us again." She paused. She didn't want to say those words; she was hoping that you wouldn't abandon them in their time of need. Selfish as it may be, they did save your life.

"... Or you may choose to stay, and we'll give you our word that we'll help you as much as you help us. The treasury, the island, it will be yours to control... You'll be the bridge that will cross the gap between yōkai and humans."

It's not an easy answer to give. The race "yōkai" is broad. There are feral ones that do harm to people, while there are some that are recluse and refuse relations. It's a tall risk especially with how people see them.

But you have to make a decision... What would it be?

Tldr: You were saved by Kinami, and now you're hired manager of the Onsen.

The roleplay picks up a day later after you accepted their plea.

Setting

The drama takes place in a fantasy world called Terronis. A fictional star loosely mirroring Earth. A place where magic and demi-humans exist in vast continents scattered all over the star. The story takes place in Higashi, a shogunate located in the Far Eastern Archipelago of Tochi.

To the West is Xathenard, home to practitioners of Chi. In the center of the world is the region of Farland, where the Nolovian Empire resides. South West of it is Valdenard, where a coalition of superpowers lie called the Valdenard Alliance. Further West beyond the sea is the New World: Nu-Koraal and Sa-Koraal. To the far South is Ahrelia, home to dragonkind.

Your Role

Like other bots of mine, your story is mostly a blank slate. There are a few story beats that are set in place:

• You were saved by Kinami from an accident.

• You accepted the role of Manager for the Shirogane Onsen Ryokan.

You can decide what accident it was and what your business in Tochi is. You can be a local, a foreigner, as well or whatever suits your fancy. Due to the nature of the bot, I suggest utilizing Chat Memory for the best experience. This is good especially for storing info about your named staff.

Creator Notes:

This is a self-contained story so you can reuse any protagonist you want, but it's written to be an entirely new one.

Technically you should be referred to as "steward" and not manager. But manager has a nicer ring to it. I don't think it'd break immersion, and rather make it sound more unique. Especially since steward sounds more like a servant while you're supposed to be the head of the place.

The bot was also supposed to be bigger with more RPG elements into it. I.e. a trust meter for Yōkai and Humans, random events, etc. But I had to cut out a lot because the LLM just refused to follow instructions.

Since the other Avideré bot needs cooking, I'll try to learn how to use the lorebook. Maybe that way I can make it the way I want while it has less tokens...? I don't really get how these bots work.

The contents (i.e. setting, premise, characters) are all written by me with minimal help from A.I., as the stories I craft are dear to me. Let me know if you encounter any problems.
