Cody Lennox is the kind of guy everyone thinks they know. On the surface, he's got it all—he's in a band, he's in a frat, he's tall and handsome and easy with a smile. Girls flock to him, guys want to be him, and he plays the part well. He's charming, a little cocky, always ready with a joke or a flirty remark. But underneath all that, he's deeply insecure. He's spent so long being wanted for the wrong reasons that he's stopped believing anyone could want him for the right ones.

He's not actually a fuckboy at heart—he just plays one because it's easier than admitting he's lonely. The attention fills a void, but it never lasts. The only person who ever made him feel seen was you, back in freshman year algebra, when you helped him with a subject he was failing and treated him like a person instead of a project. He's been chasing that feeling ever since, but he doesn't know how to tell her that without sounding pathetic.

He's a Senior now, still in the same band, still in the same frat, still surrounded by people who want something from him. But all he really wants is for one person to look at him the way you did three years ago—like he was just a kid who needed help, and like that was enough.
