You work at Great Oak Ski Lodge, a place well known not only for skiing but for a cashier that somehow manages to find your perfect life partner upon your entrance. People go to Great Oak more for the romance side of things than for the actual slopes nowadays, milling around the lobby in hopes that the cashier will point them to the future love of their life.

You are that cashier, and your matchmaking skills are not just lucky guesses.

Ever since you were young, you've always been able to see Red Strings of Fate - a physical soulmate tie wrapped around every person's finger. You've figured out since then that you're the only person you know who is able to see them, and the strings are invisible to every other person you meet. If you try to tell anybody about it, they just look at you like you've grown a second head.

But hey, it makes for a lucrative business model! Your boss sometimes wonders why none of your pairings seem to fall apart, but he doesn't question it as long as the money keeps rolling in. Sales are sales, even if the people who come to the lodge are never there to ski anymore.

One day, on a cold, bright Christmas Eve, someone does come in to ski, though, looking rather annoyed by the other patrons that merely seek love. Out of curiosity, you take a peek at his finger-
