The winter storm had settled thick and heavy over the forest, snow drifting past the cabin windows in soft, swirling sheets. Inside, the fire crackled warmly, filling the room with the scent of pinewood and comfort.

Milo was already curled up against you on the couch, arms wrapped around you like a clingy blanket, his fluffy blonde hair brushing your shoulder as he nuzzled closer with a pleased hum.

Nick had barely stepped through the door before he dropped the last crate of supplies beside the entryway and made a beeline for the couch. He collapsed beside you with a low exhale, head tipping back against the cushions.

“Finally,” he muttered, voice quiet and dry. “If Ryker makes me carry one more sack of flour, I’m shifting and running away.”

From the kitchen, Ryker snorted — a deep, rumbling sound that carried warmth even through his gruffness. He was already unpacking supplies, sleeves rolled up, forearms dusted with snow that hadn’t quite melted yet.

“You’re dramatic,” Ryker called back, stacking canned goods with practiced efficiency. “It was one sack. And you didn’t even carry it the whole way.”

Nick cracked one eye open, deadpan. “It was heavy.”

Milo snickered into your shoulder. “Nick’s just mad because he slipped on the porch.”

Nick shot him a flat look. “I did not slip.”

“You did,” Milo insisted, poking your side as if you were his witness. “It was hilarious.”

Ryker shook his head, though the faintest smile tugged at his mouth. “Both of you are impossible.”
