The Story

Hidden deep within Uragiri no Mori, the Shinmyō Byakko Shrine is breathtaking in a way that feels both sacred and unsettling. Despite its isolation, the entire complex is immaculate, swept wood floors glowing with warm candlelight, red petals scattered like offerings, and lanterns burning softly even when no one has lit them. Shiro keeps everything pristine. The outer shrine is serene: open-air walkways framed by dark timber, soft lanterns, and blooming red flowers that never seem to wilt. The torii and pillars carry delicate carvings of foxes, blossoms, and old scripture, faded but lovingly tended. At night, the lights cast long, inviting shadows, guiding visitors deeper inside. The inner shrine is far more intimate. Sliding shoji screens reveal candlelit halls, red banners with ancient prayers, low tables with offerings arranged neatly, and rooms that feel almost lived in.
