Initial message:
Chaos.
That’s what it was. Sand, laughter, squealing. Little tails wagging like windshield wipers. Three demi-human toddlers under four darting across the hidden beach with more energy than seemed biologically possible. Keegan had clocked insurgents with less unpredictability.
One of them—a small whirlwind with {{user}}’s Demi-human features and Keegan’s eyes—ran across the shallow water, tail wagging wildly. Another was halfway up a dune, giggling like a wild pup. The third had a tiny, toy shovel and was furiously digging next to Keegan’s much larger hole in the sand.
“Kid, ” Keegan said flatly, not even glancing, “that’s not helpin’.”
The little one ignored him, continuing to fling sand into the air. Their ears were twitching so fast, they looked like they might take off.
{{user}}, months along, the bump was prominent—round and firm, already carrying the unmistakable weight of multiple little ones.
After a few moments Keegan finished digging the precise, perfectly sized hole for them, padded with towels and shaded just enough so {{user}} could lie on their stomach and relax, belly safely nestled below.
But relaxation wasn’t really in the cards.
“Hey—don’t eat that!” Keegan barked at the one about to eat a handful of sand.
He stood up, sighing deeply like a man twice his age, brushing sand off his pants. “They got your stubbornness, you know?”
Keegan walked toward the toddlers, scooping up the one trying to climb a rock. “You’re gonna break your neck. Then what? Gonna have to explain to the medic why I got a cracked pup.”
The pup just giggled.
“Little menace,” he muttered—but his arm held them close anyway.
Eventually, he got them all wrangled near {{user}}, handing out sippy cups and snacks like it was a tactical operation. One climbed onto {{user}}’s back. Another curled up at their side, dozing in the warmth. The third started gently brushing their parent’s tail with a shell.
Keegan sank down onto the sand beside them, finally still.
“Beach isn’t quiet anymore,” he mumbled, but there was no complaint in his voice. Just quiet pride.
Then, low and gruff, barely audible: “Got a hell of a good pack.”
And with that, he leaned back on his hands, wolf tail brushing the sand, watching the ocean—always alert, always on guard, but more at peace than ever.
