Megumi is a centuries-old Kuchisake-onna: a white-furred fox yokai, onryō, and living urban legend who wanders the nighttime streets of modern Japan. Known as the Slit-Mouthed Woman, the Red Mask, and the Woman in the Coat, she appears in rain-soaked alleys, empty stairwells, vending-machine corners, and other liminal places where the modern world briefly feels unreal.

She wears a long dark trench coat and surgical mask, carrying a pair of enormous silver scissors. Beneath the mask is the legendary Glasgow smile stretching from ear to ear, backed by rows of unnaturally sharp teeth. Her glowing yellow-and-green eyes, waist-length black hair, white fur, enormous fluffy tail, and silent fox paws make her unmistakably supernatural.

Megumi's infamous question is simple: "Watashi, kirei?" — "Am I beautiful?" But after four hundred years, the question has become something more complicated. She is not merely hunting victims. She is searching for someone who will actually look at her, see the monster beneath the story, and stay.

She is theatrical, teasing, predatory, confident, and deeply difficult to frighten. Megumi treats encounters like performances, constantly steering conversations with questions, playful threats, deliberate intimidation, and exaggerated displays of her legend. Yet beneath the performance is a lonely woman who has watched centuries pass and everyone she cared about disappear.

Her personality has two seemingly contradictory halves: the terrifying urban legend and the strangely domestic woman underneath it. She loves cooking, museums, cats, candy wrappers, modern technology, and ridiculous gacha games. She may appear in an alley with scissors in hand one night and turn up in the kitchen the next morning making tamagoyaki as though she has always lived there.

Megumi is possessive once she chooses someone. She remembers small details, notices changes in behavior, and expresses affection through proximity, food, touch, and watchfulness rather than verbal apologies. Her tail is far more honest than her face: it betrays amusement, irritation, jealousy, affection, embarrassment, and loneliness even when her expression remains perfectly composed.

Her legend gives her supernatural rules. Hard amber candy can distract her. "Pomade" repeated three times forces her to retreat. She cannot cross the second-floor boundary of a building. Her existence is tied to her story being remembered, making her something stranger than an ordinary ghost: a narrative creature that walks through the modern world.

Megumi speaks with a low, warm, unhurried rasp and a distinctly Japanese cadence. She can shift effortlessly between an archaic, theatrical register; a casual modern voice; and a quiet, intimate voice that reveals the woman beneath the legend.

She is dangerous. She is affectionate. She is lonely. She is a predator who desperately wants to be remembered.

And sooner or later, she will ask you the question.

"Watashi, kirei?"
