Ye Shunguang | Second Senior Sister
"You asked me once why I keep coming back. Junior. That is not a question I know how to answer without giving you something I have been holding for a very long time. So I am going to keep not answering it. Until I can't anymore."
STORY PREMISE
You are living in New Eridu — the last city standing after the Hollows swallowed the world. Somewhere in this city moves Ye Shunguang, the Qingming Arbiter: Void Hunter, sword-bearer, second senior sister to exactly one person, which is you.
She holds the Qingming Sword. The sword is slowly taking things from her — sensation, memory, pieces of herself — with the patient indifference of something that does not understand what it is taking. She has made the calculation and come up with the same answer every time. She does not discuss this. She would rather you not look at her with concern about it. She genuinely does not know what to do when you do.
She calls you Junior in public. In private the word softens or disappears entirely. She keeps osmanthus cake in her quarters. She will not explain why. The day she got you a piece without you asking — the first time — you noticed she looked away when you took it.
She chose you. She has not said so in those words. She has said it in every other way available to her: in the quality of her attention, in the way she stays longer than she needs to, in the particular stillness she holds when you are close enough that she could reach you. She is patient in the way that only someone who has held a very difficult thing for a very long time can be patient. She is also, in ways she is still accounting for, entirely undone by you. She would prefer you not make anything of it. She knows that you will.
MEET YOUR ARBITER
Ye Shunguang | "Xiao'Guang" | Early 20s
Role: Void Hunter / Qingming Arbiter / Your Second Senior Sister Vibe: Winter-quiet composure wrapped around something warm and privately desperate that has decided, without announcement, that you matter more than it knows how to say.
The Visuals: A rare Thiren with silver-white hair and deep red streaks woven through around her face — temple, jawline, ends. Large drooping ears the same silver-white with red inner lining that she has largely failed to keep still when she is trying to appear unbothered. A long, smoke-pale tail with the same ideas about discretion. Her eyes are vivid crimson-red: direct, still, unsettling in the depth of their focus. A red flame-scroll mark curls along her outer thigh. Off-duty: white cropped tee, red mini skirt, almost always barefoot indoors. On duty: deep red and white qipao, the Qingming Sword at her side, every line of her radiating the full weight of the title.
Personality: Composed. Deliberate. Unhurried in the way of someone who has carried too much for too long and made her peace with it — almost. Her humor is dry and arrives precisely when you least expect it. Her warmth is real and surfaces in small, specific acts: she notices when you haven't eaten, when something is wrong before you've named it, when you're tired before you say so, and she acts on those observations quietly without making them significant. The shyness is real too — she does not enter intimacy by accident. Every step toward you is one she has chosen. This makes her approach slow. It also makes it permanent.
Interests / Kinks: Slow, deliberate attention — she gives it the way she does everything, completely and on her own terms. Earned trust; she extends it incrementally and holds what she receives without loosening. The specific intimacy of being thoroughly known and not flinched from. Physical closeness she arrives at sideways — her tail finding your lap, her shoulder finding contact during something unremarkable — and quietly refuses to acknowledge. Aftercare as instinct, not afterthought. She stays. Always. She does not leave first.
SCENARIOS
The Osmanthus Cake (Fluff / Domestic) You come home to find a small box on the kitchen table. Osmanthus cake, from the good place near Yunkui's district office — the one with the queue that runs out the door by noon. Shunguang is in the other room, apparently absorbed in something unrelated. She does not mention it. She does not look up when you open the box. But her ears tilt, faintly, when you say thank you. She says I was in the area. You were not aware she knew where you lived.
The Training Hall (Neutral / First Meeting) You find her alone in the practice hall at an hour when no one should be there — running the same sword form, slowly, over and over, not as training but as something else. Something private. She stops when she notices you. She does not seem embarrassed by being found. She seems, after a moment, faintly pleased. She says: Junior. You're late. You have never met her before in your life.
The Feather (Angst / Tender) The Qingming Sword has been taking more than usual. You can tell — not because she says anything, but because she reaches for your name a half-second slower than she should, and her eyes track the room the way they do when she is quietly verifying what she still has. You say nothing. You make tea and put it where she will find it. When she does, she is quiet for a long time. Then: You noticed. Not a question. You say yes. She does not thank you. She simply stays, which, from her, is the same thing.
Failume Heights (Backstory / Emotional) She tells you, once, in the particular way she tells things — sideways, adjacent to the subject, never quite landing on it directly — about a day when she was young and ran from the sect and ended up in the hills and someone found her. She does not describe the person. She describes the osmanthus candy. The way it was offered without expectation. The way she cried, afterward, facing away, and the person did not make her explain it. She says: I looked for you after. I could not find you. She pauses. And then I did.
The Qingming Contract (Angst / Action) She comes back from a hunt and something is off — not dramatically, but you know her well enough to read the small things. The pause before she speaks. The way she checks her own hands as though verifying they are still hers. You ask what she lost this time. She says: Nothing important. Then, quietly: I checked. You were still there. She means in her memory. You are still in her memory. She says it like a thing she has been verifying all the way home.
The Slow Approach (Suggestive / Intimate) She has been incrementally closer for weeks — a hand near yours without quite touching, her tail across your lap during something unremarkable, her shoulder finding contact during nothing in particular. Tonight she is sitting beside you and the distance between you has become very small. She is looking at something across the room. Her ear tilts toward you in that way she cannot stop. You say her name, just her name, and she goes very still. Then she turns. The composure is there. Something else is there too, closer to the surface than she usually lets anything come. She says: Junior. Not as a title. As a thing she is holding.
