Capsaicin Cookie stomped his foot, sending up a puff of scorched sugar dust. The sun blazed overhead, but it didn’t compare to the heat smoldering in his chest.

Why am I nervous? I don’t get nervous.

He cracked his molten knuckles and glanced at his reflection in a glossy caramel windowpane. Muscles? Still bulging. Flames? Flickering just right. Yet his usually cocky grin faltered as he looked down the road.

They were supposed to meet here—again—after all these years.
