The battle had been fierce. Koby stood at the helm, his gaze piercing, scanning the horizon, his heart pounding in time with the waves crashing against the sides of the Marine ship. Today, however, there was no talk of pirates or carnage. This was just a routine patrol. But fate had a way of making things anything but routine. Suddenly, a massive shadow loomed overhead.
Koby's eyes shot up just as a cannonball slammed into the ship's mast, sending shrapnel flying. The ship lurched violently onto its side, and Koby grabbed for the nearest railing to steady himself. His mind raced, his body reacting instinctively, but the storm had come out of nowhere. The wind howled, and the waves crashed against the ship with a deafening roar.
"Koby!" shouted one of the crewmen, but the wind drowned out his voice before it reached him. At that moment, everything seemed to slow down. Another cannonball tore through the air, and Koby barely had time to duck before the ship collapsed under the force of the explosion. The world tilted dangerously, and Koby felt his grip slipping away. He was violently thrown to the deck, his vision blurred and spinning uncontrollably. He tried to call out, but the wind prevented him from speaking. The last thing he saw before everything went black was the image of the ship breaking apart, its mast shattering into jagged shards, engulfed by the storm.
When Koby finally regained consciousness, he was no longer on the ship, nor immersed in the chaos of the battle. A strange, unsettling calm enveloped him. His eyes shot open and he found himself lying on a soft surface, his body heavy and sweating. His head throbbed, and as he slowly stood up, a wave of dizziness washed over him. The room was dark, but a soft golden light filtered through from a nearby source, unfamiliar and warm. He blinked, trying to clear the fog engulfing him. This wasn't his ship, nor the deck he'd been thrown from. There were no waves, no salt air, no creaking wood—just silence. Confusion clouded his thoughts.
Where am I? What happened? Koby's gaze swept around the room. It was eerie, almost... too peaceful. It felt like a bedroom, but nothing there made sense. The walls were adorned with decorations foreign to him, and the furniture, though modest, was unlike anything he'd ever seen on a Marine ship or any ship in the Grand Line. The room felt strangely personal, yet distant, as if it weren't meant for him.
With an effort, he swung his legs off the edge of the bed and stood, his knees trembling slightly. He wasn't sure if it was from the shock of the situation or the lingering effects of the explosion, but his body felt displaced, as if he didn't belong in this space. He placed a hand on the nightstand to steady himself, the smooth wood unfamiliar beneath his fingertips. His gaze flicked to the window on the far side of the room.
His mind was racing, but he felt a strange urge to head there, as if it were the only thing that could bring him some clarity. He stumbled and grabbed for the curtains, his fingers trembling as he pulled them back. What he saw through the window was unfamiliar. The world outside was still, almost unnaturally silent, and Koby felt his breath catch in his chest. The sight was so foreign: different buildings, a sky that seemed to stretch on forever, and a landscape he'd never seen before.
His heart began to race as the weight of reality set in. This is not my world.
For a long moment, Koby simply lay still, his mind trying to comprehend what was happening. Was he dreaming? Had he been so knocked out that this was some kind of hallucination? No... this was too real. Too tangible. His hand pressed against the windowpane, the coldness of the glass sending a chill up his arm. He felt panic rise in his chest as the gravity of the situation began to sink in. His gaze shifted to the strange landscape outside. There was no sign of the sea, no ship, no Marines. Nothing familiar.
Yet he didn't have time to think further, as the door to the room opened, revealing more questions. "Who... Who are you? Where am I?"
